Fjord cruise included!*
Join an early-morning preseason spring hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord before the beginning of the high season. Witness Norway’s bright green -and sometimes snowy- wilderness as it awakens after the long, cold winter. Breathe in the crisp, cool mountain air and experience the silent serenity of hiking in smal groups while enjoying panoramic views of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer.

Your journey begins early-morning when your professional guide picks you up at your preferred meeting place . While being transported to the edge of the fjord, which takes about one hour, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of some of Norway’s stunning landscapes. Upon arrival at the shore of the Høgsfjord, you’ll board a speed-ferry.**

The ferry will set-off navigating under a suspension bridge that spans the mouth of the Lysefjord. Steep mountain walls towering hundreds of meters above the fjord will then emerge. The cruise will transport you further into the Lysefjord where you will pass waterfalls, abandoned farms, and the famous Preikestolen cliff, which towers 604 meters above sea-level.

Once ashore, you’ll be driven through 26 hairpin turns along the (one and only!) road from the village of Lysebotn up to the Sirdal mountains and then onward to the Eagle’s Nest trail-head (one can speculate it got its name because it sits a lofty 640 meters above sea level). Before the crowds of tourists have begun to arrive, you’ll be well on your way up to the Kjerag boulder.

The last 2 kilometers before reaching the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the beautiful nature around you. Once you reach the edge of the mountain’s plateau, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord. You’ll then have time to relax while eating lunch near the Kjerag Boulder.

If you dare (and conditions allow), stand atop the Kjerag boulder, which hangs a heart-stopping 984 meters above the fjord. Hike in small groups and enjoy the panoramic views of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. This time of the year, you should expect the possibility of snow conditions while hiking to Kjerag. As needed, your professional guide will provide you with hiking poles, spikes, and snowshoes.

After the lunch break, your guide will lead you back down to the Eagle’s Nest, which takes about 3 hours.

This is a demanding 5.5-hour, 11 kilometer hike with a total ascent of 800 meters.

*NOTE
On Saturdays, the speed ferry does not run and we will drive around the mountains.
On Sundays, the trip’s itinerary is reversed: instead of at the start of the day, you’ll cruise through the Lysefjord during the afternoon, before traveling back to Stavanger.

Duration:
Total: ~12.5 hours (depends on weather conditions)
Hiking: ~ 5.5 hours (including breaks)
Transportation: ~2.5 hours (each way)

This was the best guided tour/hike that I have been on. We were lucky enough to have Johannes as our guide, and there was no disappointment. The whole atmosphere of the hike was very uplifting and encouraging. We had a full group of 7 people and there was not one dull moment. We not only learned a lot about Kjerag but also about Outdoor life Norway and many other hikes. I will definitely be back to do this hike, as well as many more again!!!

I did the Kjeragbolten pre-season hike on June 6th. Johannes, company owner was my guide and God bless him, made of this day the most beautiful one in Norway. It’s not an easy hike but his experience and contagious passion for his job make it fun and safe; to listening to him permitted me to learn a lot. The entire hike takes 5-6 hours but once on top you can be proud of yourself and the view takes your breath away.
Johannes and his companions are very professional and take care of you from the first moment to the end. Takk For Turen Outdoorlife Norway, I hope to meet you again for other fantastic adventures !

I was stopping through Stavanger for two nights at the tail end of a business trip and wanted to get to the Fjords for some hiking. I was on the fence whether to have a go alone or hire a guide and I’m really glad I ended up hiking with Johannes and Outdoorlife Norway. Forget having the knowledge and experience of a local guide, logistically alone this was worth it – you get door to door transport from Stavanger and more, you skip the hoards of people that are all coming and going on the mass transit options. Beyond that, Johannes knows the trail like the back of his hand (really helpful when the fog comes in an creates close to zero visibility), knows when and where it makes sense to veer off trail and made the trip fun and interesting with local anecdotes and trivia. I did the preseason Kjerag hike – the hike itself was amazing and is completely manageable for anyone with moderate hiking experience.

This was our very first hike clubbed with our honeymoon and we couldn’t have gotten a better introduction to hiking. Johannes was very good guide and got us the feel of the kjerag hike in its most authentic form has he didn’t not take us through the marked trails rather around it. We found the hike to be difficult as beginners (also categorized as hard by the Norwegian hiking association) but Johannes’s guidance helped us enjoy the hike and the scenic beauty.

Traveling alone, I know I did not want to hike alone. I found Outdoorlife Norway and decided to go with them because their website is SO detail oriented and organized. I booked two tours: the Preseason Spring Hike to Kjerag and the Preikestolen Hike Off The Beaten Path. Originally I had wanted to do the Sunrise Preikestolen Tour, but it was unavailable. However, I’m SO happy I did the Off the Beaten Path Tour.

Preseason Hike to Kjerag – Johannes, the guide, picked me up promptly, and my group of 7 was off to Kjerag! At the base of the hike, he provided us all crampons and trekking poles because the hike was still half covered in snow! I brought my own North Face GoreTex hiking boots, and my ski clothes to stay warm and dry, but boots and clothes were available for rent as well. The hike was incredibly strenuous, but SO rewarding. I consider myself pretty athletic – I’ve hiked Mt. Whitney in a day, and do a considerable amount of trail running up to marathon distances. Still, the elevation and jet lag knocked it out of me. I really liked that Johannes gave us a breakdown of the hike – (3 up hills, 2 down hills and one flat-ish area) because it helped mentally prepare us. My group was pretty much paced all the same so we were lucky! We also all got along super well so there were plenty of laughs the entire way through. On the way down, we kept joking with Johannes about letting us slide down parts of the mountain to get down faster, and he followed through! It was amazing being able to slide down the snow to alleviate the soreness from our legs from the hike up. I’m not sure how this hike looks without all the snow, but it was probably one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done in my life. AND, probably one of the best days of my life. I was nervous not knowing anyone at the start of the day, but by the end of the day, I left with a new set of friends (and our group all got dinner after)!

Preikestolen Hike Off The Beaten Path – I did this the day right have Kjerag so it SEEMED easier, but it was still quite difficult! You start by canoeing to the back side of Preikestolen – away from all the tourists. This hike has a decent amount of scrambling, so expect to use your hands! My tour guide – Erland – was quirky and would recommend us try different plants to eat around the hike, so you get a little Norwegian food tour as well. Erland took a lot of photos for us, which was also nice. I would recommend getting the photo package at the end because it’s really not too expensive, AND you’ll be able to focus more on the views yourself. The coolest part of this hike is that it is not well traveled at ALL. Johannes found it on an old trail map from half a century ago, and he tracked down the trail, but it took him many tries! It’s awesome that he goes out of his way to make these experiences unique.

I would 100% come back to Norway again and try their other tours. Johannes has built a really great company, and I’m very impressed. I love that the tours are small and intimate. I love that they are mentally and physically challenging. My recommendation for anyone is to READ THE DESCRIPTIONS ON THE WEBSITE! You’ll realize that some of the hikes are more like treks.

Thank you thank you thank you for an amazing experience.

We had a fabulous day with Johannes. From the first moment he kept everyone entertained and buzzing, was very knowledgable and experienced. The weather wasn’t on our side and made it even more challenging and I believe for some it was a fantastic experience and achievement to have made it all the way. Would definitely recommend the tour and company to anyone wanting to have a bit of an adventure in Norway!

Johannes was super awesome! The hike was beautiful and the boulder was very thrilling. Not only do they provide the 2.5 hr drive to the hike and back, he gave us snacks, showed us awesome viewpoints, and was so good about safety. I highly recommend booking this tour!

I thought it was super helpful to have a great guide like Jonas because the drive to the starting point and finding the kjeragbolten boulder in the fog are super difficult. A lot of ppl didnt find it but of course Jonas found it. Jonas was super welcoming, eager to get to know all of us. The group was pretty small, 7ppl with a fun atmosphere. Jonas told us about his country, the culture, the history, and the geology of our hike, which was very interesting. He is very passionate and enthusiastic. He makes you feel safe too, giving you hiking tips. He adapted to the group to pace us based on our level and where we stood. He is an exceptional guide. The hike / climb is SO breathtakingly beautiful. It keeps changing too which makes it super fun. It was so cold Jonas brought some warm currant juice for all of us which was thoughtful. He is a little bit of a reckless driver, but otherwise this was such a fantastic experience that I highly recommend. Theres no comparison to the guides of trolltunga active, Jonas is much better. That hike is easier, shorter, and more fun.

The preseason hike was an awesome experience! Challenging but rewarding! I highly recommend the preseason hike for a few reasons. You get a mix of seasons and beat the tourist crowd. I’ve heard people wait in long lines to get pictures on the rock… on this hike we were the only people at the boulder and got the whole place to ourselves.

My husband and I were traveling to Norway for our honeymoon. We decided to go in May because that was the best time that fit with our work schedules… we were a little apprehensive after booking it and reading some of the potential limitations for hiking adventures given the time of the year (lots of snow, needing extra equipment, etc). That’s how we stumbled upon Outdoorlife Norway!

From the get-go, booking was so easy. We were happy that we didn’t even have to leave our already-booked hotel as it was in a central location and they could pick us up. We received all the important information ahead of time and Johanes arrived with a smile on his face that morning with 5 min to spare!

There were 2 other couples and an individual on our tour. The drive to Kjerag base was beautiful. Our guide provided us with great background information and had fun stories to share along the way. We were equipped with poles (highly recommend especially if in the winter/spring seasons) and some members had rented gear (which was top of the line in quality!).

The hike was tough but we took appropriate breaks for snacks/photos/catch our breath. We had nice weather until about 1km to the boulder, then it rained and poured 🙁 we still got to go on the boulder and he took photos. We warmed up with a hot drink and began our descent. Johanes was very knowledgable and was always looking out for the health and safety of our group members throughout the climb. In my opinion, he went above and beyond his duties! He shares more great stories and history of the area. We sadly had more wet weather the entire way down, but that didn’t stop us from taking some surprising and joyful descents! We made it down in record time.

Thank you to Johanes and Siri for making this hike so memorable! A special thank you to Andrea (who works with the company) for driving out to meet us in quick fashion the next day as I left my jacket on the van!

Albeit a small company, they all have a huge heart and passion for what they do. We highly recommend that you book with them for your next Norwegian adventure!

Takk 🙂

We did the Kjerag Spring hike and Off The Beaten Track hike to Preikestolen. Johannes was prompt and very helpful in booking the tours as we were planning to visit in May and weren’t sure what our best options were at that time of year. He was a great guide very informative and climbing the boulder at Kjerag was so fun! In my book every holiday should include at least a bit of an adrenaline rush:). The view was incredible. Our second hike was another fun one this time with Allen and it is the way to go see Pulpit Rock if you’re not into following what feels like a million tourists going up:). The views along the way were even more lovely than the view at Pulpit Rock and that was pretty impressive in itself. Thank you Outdoorlife Norway for a great experience in seeing this part of your beautiful country can’t wait to come back!

Was looking for a tour company that offered hikes to Kjerag in the spring, this is the only company. They were great, on time and a pleasure to be with. I highly recommend!

Great hike to Kjerag. I enjoy every step of the way. They give you information about history, geography, biology and also tips to improve your hiking skills. I absolutely recommend the trip!

Awesome hike of an awesome location. Johannes was a great guide, I’d highly recommend him. A good example of some of the benefits of going with an experienced guide: he was able to spot a snow bridge that was close to falling in over a creek that many people had crossed, he spotted it for us and helped mark the true bridge for other hikers so they did not end up in the creek.

Eric

Highly recommended! Johannes provided us with an unforgettable experience. He is a very knowledgeable, attentive and all-around great guide. He provided us with stories about the area, made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times and kept a good pace. We had a bit of extra fun sliding down the slopes in the snow afterwards. What a wonderful day!

Its definitely worth it to hike with Johannes to Kjerag. He has so much knowledge to share and I definitely got more out of the trip doing it with Outdoorlife Norway. A great experience overall and one I would gladly do again!

I did both the Kjerag preseason and Pulpit Rock Off the Beaten Path. The day hikes were awesome. The sights were beautiful and pristine and Johannes and his guides were great, providing tons of information about these regions and Norway in general. The Off the Beaten Path was especially nice because it avoiding the crowds and you get to the see the rock from a much different and beautiful angle.

Did Preikestolen and Kjerag. Both very challenging hikes. Johannes and Alan did everything to help me, and they told a lot about the landscape and the Area. The landscape is so unbelievable beautiful. Highly recommend this trips and the company.

Amazing trip! The guide is very nice and sometimes bring you a little surprise in the tour. Preseason hiking is brilliant, because there are no too many tourists and no hurry on the way.

Me and my husband did the Kjeragbolten pre-season hike and it was one of the most amazing holiday experiences we’ve ever had! The hike seemed quite intense for us and we were very happy that we had Johannes as our guide – the experience wouldn’t have been the same without his guidance. He showed us the most optimal route that avoided the most dangerous climbs and slippery/muddy parts which made the hike much more enjoyable. It was also great to learn a lot about the history and the culture of the region from someone local. The views were just breathtaking throughout the hike but the scenery at the very top truly made us think that it was worth the 3 hour journey!

I booked a few weeks ago with johannes. He pick me up early in the morning and se headed with 6 other “partners” in this adventure. The weather was rough but Johannes provided us with walking poles and we hired hiking boots, waterproof pants and a jacket. It was very well organised.
It took 2.5 hours to get to the top, walking at a gentle pace with several stops throughout. Unfortunately due to the weather, it was very cloudy and foggy so we didn’t get to see much, but managed to get on top of Kjeragbolten and lived to prove It . However, we were the only 6 people on the entire Mountain!!
We had hiked through a bit of rain, hail, snow, sleet and wind, but What and adventure!!
We then took another 2.5 hours to hike down followed by waffles at the tourist information office.
We were back in Stavanger at 19:30
I would love to go back and do it all over again – would highly recommend!!
