Join Outdoorlife Norway on an early-morning summer hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, and enjoy the spectacular Lysefjord. Relax and savour the views while you’re transported by fjord cruise. Hike in small groups on trails that have been upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas, and enjoy the exhilaration of standing atop the boulder before the crowds of tourists arrive.

Our local nature guides have first-hand knowledge about the Ryfylke region, and a passion for sharing stories about its natural and cultural history with our guests. In addition, we guide our guests to the best viewpoints, and show how to capture memorable photos. Your journey begins early-morning when your professional nature guide picks you up at your preferred meeting place (see above for specific pick-up times and locations). While being transported to the edge of the fjord, which takes about 1 hour, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of some of Norway’s stunning landscapes. Upon arrival at the shore of the Høgsfjord, you’ll board a speed-ferry.* The ferry will set-off navigating under a suspension bridge that spans the mouth of the Lysefjord. Steep mountain walls towering hundreds of meters above the fjord will then emerge. The cruise will transport you further into the Lysefjord where you will pass waterfalls, abandoned farms, and the famous Preikestolen cliff, which towers 604 meters above sea-level. Once ashore, you’ll be driven through 26 hairpin turns along the (one and only!) road from the village of Lysebotn up to the Sirdal mountains and then onward to the Eagle’s Nest trail-head (one can speculate it got its name because it sits a lofty 640 meters above sea level).

Before the crowds of tourists have begun to arrive, you’ll be well on your way up to the Kjerag boulder. During the 2.5-hour hike to the boulder, you’ll encounter 3 periods of steep climbing interspersed with 2 shallow valleys. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the village of Lysebotn, which is situated at the head of the Lysefjord. The final 2 kilometers leading up to the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the spectacular nature around you.

Once you reach the edge of the mountain’s plateau, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometer-long Lysefjord. Cliff-side, you’ll have plenty of time to rest and enjoy your packed lunch. If you’re among the brave, you’ll have the opportunity to stand atop the Kjerag boulder.

Base-jumping is legal in Norway, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch as daredevils hurdle themselves off the side of the cliff. =) After the lunch break, your guide will lead you back down to the Eagle’s Nest, which takes approximately 2 hours. On the drive back to Stavanger, the guide will navigate over a mountain pass through the municipality of Sirdal. You’ll pass through a barren, glacier-scoured landscape that many experience as being moon-like.

The hike to Kjerag is relatively demanding: you’ll trek 11 kilometers (round-trip) with an ascent of 800 meters in 5.5 kilometers.  During the approximately 2.5-hour hike to the boulder, you’ll encounter 3 periods of steep climbing interspersed with 2 shallow valleys. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of Lysebotn, which is situated at the head of the Lysefjord.

*On Saturdays, the speed ferry does not run and we will drive around the mountains. On Sundays, the trip’s itinerary is reversed: instead of at the start of the day, you’ll cruise through the Lysefjord during the afternoon, before traveling back to Stavanger.

Amazing hiking experiences with the Top 1 guides in Stavanger

Booked 2 hikes with Outdoorlife Norway (Kjerag Summer Hike and Preikestolen Off the Beaten Track-Sunrise), the Flørli 4444 hike was fully booked so I couldn’t do it with them. I did both hikes with Erlend, a professional guide and photographer, who also holds a Masters in Biology.

I really enjoyed both hiked, I would have given more than 5 stars if that was possible!

If I could sum up the 3 reasons why it’s a great choice to book with them, those would be:
1- Photography: the photos our guide took were stunning, way better than the ones we would have taken ourselves
2- Fauna and Flora: our guide knew everything about the animals, insects, plants, flowers, fruits we came across during our hikes and brilliantly answered all our questions
3- Professionalism: this company is very professional (Top 1 in the Stavanger area), always responsive and punctual. Everything went smoothly from the booking until the end of the hike. Our guide was super comprehensive, empathetic and flexible. He adapted the pace of the hikes according to our physical capabilities and managed to keep a really nice atmosphere during and after the hikes. Overall, you can tell he really loves what he does.

Erland, Thanks again for these amazing experiences! Hope we meet again in the future 🙂

It was an enjoyable experience with Hilde our guide tour. She’s so calm which is very important of this Kind of tour. She definitely the right person in this job

Two thumbs up! The guide, Pablicio (Fablicio) was very friendly, calm and experienced, made the whole journey so much easier & safer for us with his own secret path. 🙂 While others were slipping from steep rock hills, no one from us got injured, not a single wound. Enjoyed the trip very much, it is certainly a must in Norway and something you’ll regret for, if you miss it. Once in a lifetime experience!!!

Both nature, history and an amazing guided tour!

Our guide Johannes was absolutely amazing – both friendly, professionel and an experienced hiker. We had an outstanding tour with few others, which made everything more intimate and speciel. He saw every persons needs during the tour.

The tour got a new demension every time we took a break, where Johannes became a history teller and then told us some facts and stories about the nature, the mountains and the Norwegian people. Also, we got homemade canberryjuice on time, while we ate lunch.

It was just a fantastisc tour – which we highly recomend to everyone! 🙂

Escursione veramente bella. Consiglliata!

The best vacation

My family and I did three hikes with Outdoorlife Norway – and each one was wonderful. The guides were such a help and made all the difference. On this Kjerag hike, Fabrizio took us not only to Kjerag, but also to another peak so we could see the fiord without the huge crowd. When we went to Preikestolen, Sigrid was so informative and patient with the slower ones among us. And Sigrid was just perfect – we had a route all planned, but asked at the last minute if we could go someplace else – she was just so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Going with Outdoorlife Norway just made our vacation perfect.

Great day

Jeff was our guide for the day. He and his bride to be, Carina, led our trip this day. The pickup was on time and in the correct location. Jeff was highly professional and made our day easier by choosing an easier path than the one that most people go up.

Jeff kept the day interesting with stories and anecdotes and ushered the group with a perfect pace. We moved quickly, but not too quickly. He did a good job of explaining the hike with three big climbs and then when we reached Kjeragbolten, he gave us a briefing on how to get on and off the boulder safely. The technique was much better than what I would have naturally done.

There were a few people when we got to Kjeragbolten, but the queue was less than 5 minutes. After we finished our snack at the top, the queue had increased to maybe 20 minutes.

I ordered the photo package but haven’t yet seen my photos because they require a computer to download and I won’t be back at my computer for a few weeks. If you want your photos instantly, also take your own. My understanding is that the photos they take are professionally edited, which is why they take a few days. I look forward to seeing them!

Overall, I really enjoyed the hike and felt that going with OUTDOORLIFE Norway, made my day much easier and more fun. If you’re an experienced biker, you would probably be okay on your own, but this was a good way to meet some new people and get some information that I wouldn’t have known before.

Thanks for a great day, Jeff and Carina!

Perfect hike

Perfect hike to Kjerag, they picked us on time, the pace was correct and we could enjoy a boat trip to Lysefjord and step onto the famous boulder safely. Totally recomended.

Kjerag with Mathilde

We had the pleasure of Mathilde as our guide on a tough but spectacular hike to the Kjerag boulder and back. She was really good about keeping the group together which made it fun for everyone. She fed us snacks and hauled a traditional (warm) black currant drink for the whole group which we drank at the site of the boulder.

What was truly amazing was Mathilde’s ability to control the weather. The morning started off with fog in the parking lot. It quickly dispersed when we started hiking and we thought we were just lucky. During the hike, it was 17 degrees (perfect for hiking) and the sun was shining for the entire climb to the boulder. When we got there, there was cloud blocking our view of the water and to the other side of the fjord. Magically again, the clouds were blown away right in time for our pictures and lunch! We set off on the return and it was starting to get hot so Mathilde called for a cool breeze … and it came. She also managed to bring some light cloud cover for the last 45 minutes … but not rain as that would have made everything slippery. Amazing! 🙂

Takk for Turen!

I would like to say a massive thank you to Outdoorlife Norway. Because of this company I’ve had an incredible adventure that I shall never forget.
As a keen hiker, the Kjerag and Preikestolen hikes had been on my bucket list, and I am so pleased I choose Outdoorlife Norway to conquer them.

The website explains the hikes very well, and provides all the relevant information needed.
Once booked onto a hike you receive an email with very detailed information, so you are very well informed with what you are getting yourself involved with.

My first hike was the sunrise hike to the Preikestolen. Josh the guide was excellent, and contributed to making the hike to the Preikestolen a fantastic experience. It was a very foggy day, and didn’t see the sunrise, however this didn’t hinder the experience of the hike. If you love to hike then It’s well worth doing regardless of the weather as it’s a great hiking experience.

The following day I did the Kjerag hike.

I was the only one booked onto this hike, and my guide Sigbrit was awesome. I can honestly say I had the best day hiking with her. A special hike that I will cherish in my memories forever.

Thank you to both my guides Josh and Sigbrit, you are a credit to Outdoorlife Norway.

Kind regards

5* guided hikes in the Stavanger region

I booked 3 hikes with Outdoorlife Norway on my recent visit to Stavanger – the Flørli Day Hike, Kjerag Summer Hike and Preikestolen Off the Beaten Track. Although this is a small company, the service throughout, from the initial booking confirmations to the hikes themselves, was superb, worth every kroner!

The guides – Erlend, Joffrey and Saul – were friendly and supportive, and their humour helped make the trips so enjoyable. They were able to adjust the pace according to everyone’s needs and I felt safe at all times. The group sizes varied, from 2 to 7, but I enjoyed all three trips, as well as the chance to meet other travellers.

These are challenging hikes, and the weather can change quickly, so it is worth checking that you are prepared with the right equipment (hiking boots, waterproof trousers/jacket) before you travel. However, it is also possible to rent items if you need. The pre-booked photo package is also a great choice as it leaves you free to enjoy the experience of hiking in stunning Norwegian landscapes.

I can’t recommend Outdoorlife Norway highly enough – I hope to return and hike with them again in future. Tusen takk for turene 🙂

Great guides and fun hike

Me and my friend did the hike towards the end of May 2019. I am very glad we went with Outdoorlife Norway. Jeff and Raul were fun, the whole hike was filled with laughter and pleasant chatting. I had also a minor knee injury the day before, but they were patient with me, and really helped me make it all the way and back. They kept checking in on me and the hiking equipment they provided were very useful and practical. I never felt for a moment that they were frustrated with me, and despite my pain, this was still one of my favorite Norway experiences thanks to them. The photo package was also great, they took great pictures and allowed us to spend our time enjoying the route. I highly recommend them.

Its much more ambitious than Preikestolen. Right clothes (Rain Jacket & trousers), Sticks, Cap and gloves is absolutely necessary. The weather changed from -3/3 degree and from sun to rain to snow. The way down ist really slippery-be careful and go backwards with the string where it is possible! great experience, great tourguide, would do it again.

An awesome hike with an amazing guide (Jeff)

I went on the Kjerag summer hike by myself and had a fantastic time. Jeff, our guide, was phenomenal–he’s incredibly funny and gregarious and made the experience very enjoyable. I highly recommend doing Kjerag with these guys, especially for safety’s sake, as Jeff’s explanation and instructions on how to go out on the rock helped put one at ease and made things less difficult.

Very well organized trip with friendly, experienced and yet humourous guides (Raul & Jeff). They are really attentive to give information and tips for the hike, showed us the shelter house, know where to push our limit or where to jump in to give a helping hand, chit chatting with everyone in the group.
Thanks Raul and Jeff again for the fun and memorable hike in the amazing beautiful Norway mountain!! Wish you guys all the best!

I would like to thank my guide Jeff for helping me pull through the whole hike. Just 30 minutes into the hike, I experienced cramps on both my thighs, sonething which has never happened before. Jeff was very encouraging and checked on me several times. His concern and helpful acts made the whole ordeal so much bearable. Every step up or down the steep hills brought pain to my thigh but never once did I feel like giving up, all because of Jeff. I felt safe with Jeff every moment and am glad to have chosen Outdoorlife. I highly recommend Outdoorlife to anyone who wants a good hiking experience here. I thank God for Jeff and congratulate Outdoorlife Norway for having such a professional and caring guide. Well done.

The hike itself was stunning and it was more than just the one money shot on the boulder. All along the 5-hour hike there were spectacular views of Norway’s iconic rugged landscapes. We started early (pickup by Joffrey, our guide, from our Stavanger hotel before 5AM!) so had much of the trail to ourselves. Coming back, we saw more hikers, many without guides. IMO though, having Joffrey as a guide was completely worth it, he was caring, attentive and very knowledgeable and talked to us about the geology of the fjords to life in Norway to the best spots to take photos. The capper was the secret spot he took us to for our lunch break just a few minutes from the boulder—best picnic spot ever, Takk Joffrey

Challenging but great experience

I did the Kjerag Summer Hike – Beat the Crowds and the Preikestolen “Off the Beaten Track” on back to back days. Erlend was the guide for the Kjerag Summer Hike and he was friendly and made everyone comfortable by answering all our questions and sharing his knowledge about the land. The hike was challenging but he always made sure that everyone was safe in every weather condition.
Fabrizio was the guide for the Preikestolen hike and did a great job guiding our full group of 8 (of all varying fitness levels) safely through the unmarked trail. He showed us the best spots of the Lysfjord and took some great shots.
Overall, the guided hikes were the highlights of my trip. Pick-up and drop-off were punctual and everything was well organized. As a solo traveler, it was also a great way to meet other people. I felt safe knowing that I was with someone who knew the trails well and what to do in emergency situations. If you don’t have appropriate hiking gear, I recommend renting their waterproof hiking boots and clothing as on both hikes we encountered either rain or wet and muddy trails.

Kjerag Summer Hike – Beat the Crowds

Actually, I took this tour just one day after preikestolen sunrise hike

The tour guide is friendly ,attentive ,knowledgeable, and professional. She appears before the pick-up time 5:05 AM.We had a fresh start with taking a cruise through the Lysefjord. It’s nice! The guide took us to the Kjeragbolten with good walking pace, we had enough break at every stoppoint and viewpoint. The boulder is bigger than my expect, I felt very peaceful standing on it.Our guide not only took us to the boulder, but also showed us another great viewpoint nearby Kjeragbolten.I saw someone did a basejump with wingsuit flying there.

The difficulty of this hike should be moderate, but I only walked once in sunny day.Maybe it will be harder in other weather conditions.

You can drive here by yourself, but the parking space is limited. If you participate in this tour, don’t worry about no parking in high season.

Amazing experience

We had really good time doing the hike. Everything was well planned and organized. Early start in summer is a good choice to avoid the crowd, reach the boulder when sky are clear and blue.
Our guides, Raul and Jeff, are so friendly friendly and humourous. They are also very informative, attentive and understanding. They provided all needed info before and along the hike, advised on using equipments, let us struggle at times to give our own push and gave a helping hand when necessary. They are always positive and making jokes which made the journey more enjoyable.
Highly recommend Outdoorlife for a best hiking experience.

First of all, this was my first time to jump into a tour that guide you to mountain, which was really helpful, I can’t image what if I go to Kjerag on my own.

Thank you Outdoorlife Norway & Jeff!

Before travelling to Stavanger, I did indeed quite some researches on Kjeragbolten. On one hand, I knew I’d regret if I’d have missed this amazing natural art piece, but on the other hand, I dare not to do it on my own without a professional guide. All the questions I had before booking the tour were all answered friendly and informatively – they basically left me no choice but to book the tour.

I’d like to say thank you once again to our guide, Jeff, also on behalf of other hikers in the tour as he has simply made the hiking tour an unforgettable one – with his professional hiking guiding and sense of humor! He had a nice balance in that he was easy-going, yet diligent in teaching us useful techniques so that we could finish some relatively more challenging hikes. As a sorta hiking beginner, I felt secured with his advices throughout the whole tour and learnt a lot about the Norwegian nature, history of Lysefjord area. His passion in hiking also reminded me life is not only about working, working and working, yet, there are many more things in life, say hobbies and the nature surrounded us, to be treasured.

I’ve decided to come back soon for another hike with Outdoorlife Norway and I do recommend their tours to anyone who wants to make their visit in Stavanger an extraordinary one!

Thank you Outdoorlife Norway & Jeff!

Excellent hike with great views

Did Kjerag hike, guides were extremely informative and amusing, and helped keep the group chatty. Well paced hike with amazing views all the way there and back. Strongly recommend to join!

Challenging but beautiful hike

The hike is quite challenging but the guide uses // paths to avoid slippery parts.
To go to the rock you have to hike 3 ‘different hills’. The view at the top is amazing.

Doing the hike with a guide & a group is very nice since we all cheer up for each other, the guide takes (expensive) but very nice pictures, he uses easier paths, he is really motivated.
This is quite expensive but it was necessary to me to be able to hike without the crowd, to feel supported and have some equipment!

Esperienza meravigliosa… Grazie!!!

Ho partecipato questo Settembre alle escursioni “preikestolen: off the beaten track” e “kjeragbolten: beat the croud”,e sono rimasta estremamente soddisfatta.
Queste escursioni valgono ogni singolo centesimo speso.
Consiglio vivamente di acquistare il pacchetto con il servizio fotografico.

It was worth getting up early!

In the beginning of September a friend and I started our trip around Norway.

My friend loves walking and already did a couple of adventures hikes. Me on the other hand was a bit afraid. I love to walk but I’m not used to the mountains.

We booked the Kjerag morning hike to be sure we were there before the tourists.

And it was worth it.

Our guide was Johannes. He was very nice and funny. He gives a lot of information and prepares you for the trip. Also the other tourist joining the trip were nice.

We started our trip in the cold misty mountains but it ended in a sunny beautiful day. The view was amazing!

You have to be in a good condition to do this hike, but overall Johannes is helping a lot choosing the easiest and savest way to the bolder. He also brought us to a beautiful and less touristic lunch spot.

I can write so much about this trip, but I think you have to experience it yourself.

We also did other hikes in Norway but Kjerag was the only one we did with a guided tour and we dont regret it.

Takk for turen!

Amazing trip to Kjerag

We went with Outdoorlife Norway on a guided tour to Kjerag with terrible rain and sleet but they made the trip so memorable that I almost didn’t notice the weather. Got some amazing views and memories for life. We will be back and we will for sure use them again and recommend them to everybody we know!!
Ps: Hilde, Fabrizio and Molly the dog is amazing guides and are absolutely recommended.
But please everybody that tries to hike the Norwegian mountains be prepared and follow the recomandations of the guides and the staff in the parking lot of the mountains. They know what they are talking about!!!!

Had a blast!

I went on my dream hike (Kjerag) and had Johannes as my guide. He was very friendly and full of knowledge! If you want a guided hike, 100% go with these guys! They even have rental gear if needed. They are very helpful so if you have any questions they will help you out for sure!

Amazing Hike

I did this hike with my friends and it was really challenging considering it was my first. We thought we couldn’t make it up but our guides were really helpful and considerate. We had few stops to rest and take some pictures. The view just keeps on getting better as we get closer to the top. After climbing 3 hills and going through different terrains, I could say it was all worth it. Taking a picture on the boulder is something you shouldn’t miss; we were lucky there was no queue. We then had our lunch in a secret spot with an amazing view. It was really tiring but a great experience.

Amazing hikes!

Me and my friend did the Kjerag and Sunrise Preikestolen hikes. We did both in two days. And it was amazing. For the Kjerag hike you have to have hiking experience. But Our guide Eric guided us perfect up and down. On the next morning we went to the pulpit Rock. Because we went so early we had all the rock for ourselves. One of our group was not so fit therefore we almost mist the breakfast. But the guide Erland guided Our group safe down. Thank you for the great memories. We loved hiking with you guys.

Started the hike with foggy weather but ended the hike with amazing sunny weather. That’s the beauty of Norway. Hiking up Kjerag was tough but the guide in outdoorlife Norway are positive and encouraging making the hike very enjoyable despite the starting bad weather. The guard was very experience and has a lot of knowledge of the hike. Throughout the whole hike he share those knowledge and also ensure our safety when arrive at the boulder. Upon reaching the boulder is purely your own choice to go up there and to make it more sweeter is the number of people at the queue was at the minimum during that time. Really enjoyed the tour and thanks the guides at outdoorlife Norway for getting the team to and fro safely.

This hike was, without a doubt, the highlight of my time in Norway. The hike is a bit difficult, with three steep sections, but it’s doable for those who are moderately active. And the view at the top and the chance to stand on Kjerag makes it all worth it. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Eirik, who took the skill levels of the hikers into account and set a nice pace for us. He was patient and encouraging and was a lot of fun to talk to throughout the day. He clearly loves what he does and that rubbed off on us hikers. He also made sure to take lots of photos of everyone, which is a really wonderful bonus to this hike. Eirik inspired me to look into the five-day hike Outdoorlife Norway offers so hopefully I will see Kjerag again soon 🙂

Phenomenal! Erik was an amazing guide, helping to make a challenging and dangerous climb much safer. His patience and knowledge of the area made for a very enjoyable trip. He took great photos along the way and at Kjeragbolten. He then took us to an even better place to eat lunch and watch the base jumpers. The hike was difficult, but the reward was spectacular views down the fjord and all around. This trip was amazing!

Thanks so much to johanson! I went with my brother to do the kjerag hike and it was amazing. It was a difficult trek and I was very tired at the end of it. I’m 27 with moderate fitness. There is a lot of climbing and even at times a little bit of free climbing. You are literally climbing a mountain! Its definitely a great and different experience going with outdoor life. We reached the top by around 11:30. There were maybe 10ish people waiting in line to take a photo.
It was a great trip and met lots of lovely people as well! Thanks again

Absolutely great experience with Outdoor life Norway. Right from a timely pick up, a beautiful cruise on Lysefjord, a fabulous hike to Kjerag (with astonishing photo opportunities) and a scenic route on the way back, everything was just fabulous.

Our guide, Alan was very experienced, professional and knowledgeable about the hike and the region. He kept us engaged and took us off track to make the hike more exciting. I would definitely recommend Outdoor life Norway even when you can hike on your own on these mountains which are marked well, purely because they make the whole experience so worth it. I’m definitely coming back.

This hike was definetly worth the price. We started very early in the morning with our guid Eric who was not only fun to be around but also knew a lot of tipps and tales about things we saw on our trip (Angry as a lemming… will never forget that one). We were a small group which made it even better. Once we reached our first spot for a short break on the trail we even got a little treat. The Kjerag rock is just awesome. Eric told us how to get on it so it was not that scary (don’t look down!!). After a fun hike he drove us save back to Stavanger. I sure had a lot of fun that day!

It was so great pleasure making this hike with Outdoorlife Norway! Our group was small, only 4 people, but Erland made this hike unforgettable. We started early so that we avoided huge amount of people on our way up. Guide shared different interesting facts and took care of all needs stuff.
I can definitely recommend others doing this hike with Outdoorlife Norway guys and would be happy to do other hikes with them as well!

I took this tour with my daughter on 3rd July 2018. Johanes met us right on time and we began our journey. The tour was full that day but that was still only 7 of us. Johanes explained everything about the tour as we drove to the ferry. Once on the ferry he came round with coffee for everyone and told us more about the fjord we were travelling down. Once we had started of the hike he set a very manageable pace with regular stops to drink, eat, adjust kit etc whilst also telling us about the terrain we were hiking through. Once at Kjerag we were given explicit instructions to ensure our safety when standing on the boulder whilst Johanes took photographs. Once we left the boulder, Johanes took us to a lunch spot with an awesome view of the fjord. We were also lucky enough to watch BASE jumpers parachuting off of the cliffs. I had also preordered the photo package and three days later received a folder of excellent pictures to help us remember a truly wonderful day. The hike was not easy but very worthwhile. I have no problem recommending Outdoorlife Norway and am already planning a return visit to undertake some of their other trips.

Graduation trip 2018

Yesterday we spent an amazing day with Johannes from Outdoorlife Norway. We are in Norway with our son, daughter and 4 of their friends for a graduation trip for our son and his friends. We knew the boys wanted to do some hiking and they picked the iconic Kjeragbolten hike. Being responsible for 4 teens who were not our own led us to Outdoorlife Norway and Johannes. Johannes is the owner and founder of Outdoorlife Norway. His professionalism and knowledge were essential as this is a difficult hike, and in our case, the weather wasn’t the best. From the minute we started communicating via email, his guidance on everything from what gear we needed, what not to wear to placement of our feet for best grip and support while on the trail was amazing. This hike was by far the most strenuous hike any of us had done and his guidance something we could not have done without. Everyone made it out on to the bolt, at no time did anyone feel unsafe and throughout the trip, Johannes was just fun to be around. We highly recommend Johannes from Outdoorlife Norway to anyone hiking in this region. Whether you are an experienced hiker or not, having Johannes along will only add to your experience. Takk for turen, Johannes! You gave our group an experience of a lifetime!

Kjerag and off the beaten track Preikestolen hikes

Did two amazing hikes with Outdoorlife Norway. Mathilde and Ingve were our wonderful guides through Kjerag. I could see that hike being dangerous, but they made sure we got through safely. In addition to the boulder, the views were spectacular. Off the beaten track lives up to its name. The canoeing to start was different and fun. Then, hiking through forest and avoiding the crowds was well worth it. Helping us through and providing plenty of entertainment was our guide Erlend. I especially appreciated that he gave us enough time to take photos on Pulpit Rock once the fog finally cleared. I highly recommend both hikes with Outdoorlife Norway.

There are not enough good things to say about these trips! I joined in on the Beat the Crowd Kjerag Hike & the Sunrise Preikestolen Hike and recommend both 100%!!! Johannes was an excellent guide for these hikes and really made you feel comfortable and excited the whole way through. His passion for outdoor life in Norway is apparent throughout the entire trip. I wish I could go on even more hikes with this great company! The trip was seamless with the pickup at the hotel, the drive to the ferry, the ferry ride, the drive to the start of the hike, the actual hike, and the transport home. LOVED IT ALL!

A Very Muddy Climb to Kjeragbolten

Kjeragbolten will remain one of the most memorable days in my life, mainly due to the photo at the end on top of the boulder. No one has ever fallen but there’s always a chance it could be you. Nothing is preventing you from falling except adrenaline or your sense of life preservation. The hike from the trailhead to the top took about four hours, with three long ascents, followed by two long descents. The hike down took about 3 hours. Our Outdoor life guide led us mainly off-trail on very muddy, marshy ground. While easier on the feet and legs than the stone trail, my experience wasn’t quite as positive as some of the others of the tour. I would have preferred remaining on the trail and having a solid ground under my feet. The hiking poles helped sometimes, but mostly were a burden. I’ve done quite a bit of recreational hiking in the past and I’d rate the hike portion of the tour probably average to poor. The best part to me was refilling our drinking water using the streams we passed. The hike is not terribly hard, but having hiking shoes helps tremendously. I saw people with sneakers who made it just fine. You never feel unsafe, until you climb onto the boulder. Our guide helped us focus on sliding from the ledge/cliff of the mountain to the boulder, using a little metal band in the wall. I saw at least a dozen people, unguided, who didn’t have a problem standing on the boulder. Mainly people learned by watching the people before you. Personally, our guide’s knowledge helped me. I recommend the photo package for $30 or so. I had someone use my phone to take photos of me on the boulder, also, but the photos our guide took were much better. In total, I paid USD $182 for the hike and photos. The cost included the three hour transportation to the trailhead, ferry, and the three hour drive back. The pick up was at 455am at the domkirkeplassen. I enjoyed the cruise through the Lysenfjord much better than the “guided” cruise I took the other day with Rodne Cruise. Outdoor life’s guide did a much better job explaining the sites. We returned to our hotels around 6pm. I was amazed at our guide’s energy in leading our hike and transporting us most of the way through Norway’s relatively narrow roads. I recommend buying the Salmon and Egg sandwich from the Kjerag café for 129 nok or USD $16 or bringing your own food.

Kjerag summer hike

I did a “Kjerag summer hike” with Outdoorlife Norway on August, 30th and I totally loved it! Many thanks to our guide – Johannes – with whom the hike was definitely easier, safer and of course more interesting. It’s always a pleasure to deal with people who are passionate about their work and do it professionally.
We were lucky with the weather – it was a sunny day so we were able to enjoy fantastic views. The hike does require a physical effort, but if you practice some physical activity on a regular basis you should be ok. You will probably feel a bit of muscle tension in your legs for a few hours after the hike, but it’s a pleasant sort of tiredness like after a good work out. I used hiking poles which I’d been dismissing before and as it turned out – quite unjustly: the poles do help a lot, they allow to distribute the load between your muscles more evenly, provide additional support when you go up and keep you from sliding when you descend.
As for getting onto the boulder – to me it was much more of a test than the hike itself 🙂

P.S. Do follow the recommendations given in the information package sent along with the booking confirmation as they will make your hikes a more enjoyable and safe experience.

I did managed to book both Sunrise Hike to Preikestolen as well as Beat the Crowd Kjerag Hike with Outdoor life Norway and the whole trip was amazing and very well organised. Both Johannes and Allen were very experienced hiking guides, more so ever they are very encouraging and well versed with the terrain. They absolutely made sure all of us kept at ease, however ensuring the safety. Completely enjoyed both the hikes and subsequently had the confident to finish Troltunga hike too! so can’t ask for more! I would absolutely recommend Outdoor Norway for amateur hikers like me to ensure things are done safely however still will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the hikes!
“Takk for turen”! for the whole team

We visited Stavanger in July and went on Outdoor Lifes Kjerag Summer Hike. Johannes was our guide and we had the best day! He told so many interested stories that we would not have known doing the walk ourselves. This hike was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and we would recommend if your travelling with others or by yourself as it is very sociable. There were many steep and rocky parts but Johannes gave great advice on the best way to get up. Thanks for the great day!

I had Johannes, the owner of this small company, as our guide for Kjerag hike. I knew it would be good weather thanks to our communication before the tour. It was indeed fantastic! During the whole time of guiding us to the top, driving us back to Stavanger, Johannes has been very attentive and energetic. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about outdoor life, arctic circle, and very friendly. Equally important, we had a nice group and overall that made my trip to Norway wonderful. Many thanks!

Both hikes were great. We had unfortunately bad weather for the hike at Preikestolen but it still was a beautiful experience to cross the lake with a canoe and go to the pulpit rock off the beaten track. The next day in Kjerag was amazing! We had good weather and a wonderful view on the mountains, lakes and fjord. The Highlight was seeing base jumpers jumping down the cliff! I also liked the drive in the morning and the ferry in the afternoon. Thus we could get a good overview of this fantastic region! Johannes was a great guide explaning well and taking care of the group. I highly recommend to book a hike with him!

Our guide was Are and we were with a group of 5. The rain was expected on the returntrip so we wouldn’t want to waste to much time getting to the boulder. So in a steady pace, but with short stops at the three tops, we tackled the mountain. We followed the “hikerspath” which meant we almost didn’t used the chains but hiked thru the grassy parts. Are said it was easier and better for the legs, but it makes you walk more. As there are some steep parts you must be able to do some kind of climbing and don’t think of going when youre out of shape or aren’t comfortable climbing or walking long parts over uneven rockfaces. Once at the boulder Are made the picks for those who did stand on it. Big plus of taking this tour is that a ferry trip thru the fjord al the way to Lysebotn is included. And also the road to the Eaglesnest is a attraction in its own. The ride from town to the start almost takes 3 hours but you drive thru some nice country-side with beautiful views. And in the end we made it up and down without rain.
You can do the trip on your own if youre confident enough and the wheather is clear enough to spot the markers, but the guidedtour added lots of extra plusses and info. And this is the only way to do the hike, and have a fjordcruise included.

This is the first that I have ever written a review on tripadvisor, and there is a reason for it.

I booked three tours with ourdoorlifenorway for three consecutive days from 20-22 July 2017, the first one being the “Off The Beaten Track”, the second being the Kjerag tour, and the third being the Sunrise Hike. While the first and the last tours up to the pulpit rock were great, I really wanted to write about my Kjerag Tour experience in more details.

The day i went on the Kjerag tour, i was very fortunate for two reasons. Firstly, I was the only one (literally) who booked for the tour that day, so i felt like a VIP. And secondly, I was fortunate enough to have Audun as my tour guide. Audun usually only comes a few times a year, and man did I win the lottery!

The Kjerag tour was definitely challenging (more challenging than the sunrise hike, though both tours give you amazing views), but that’s the point of hiking/trekking i believe. Audun was there every step of the way, guiding me through the terrain to get to the Kjerag. You can tell that he was very passionate about his job, and more specifically, his country, as he spent a lot of time explaining how the mountains and natural landscape were formed, how the “little” rocks that were scattered at the top got there (you’d know what i mean if you decide to go on the tour), and other interesting cultural information about the Norwegian people in general. You cannot find a tour guide that is more professional than Audun. I am also very obsessed with getting good pictures, and since i was the only one in the tour, i was always able to ask Audun to take pictures of me at the spots i find beautiful (and he also knew which spots were the best to take pictures).

As already mentioned earlier, one of the greatest advantages of booking with outdoorlifenorway is that even if you are the only person who books for the tour that day, the company would still continue the tour and not cancel it (mind you, the cost of paying the guide and gas alone probably already surpass the cost I paid for the tour that day).

In conclusion, I can’t recommend this tour enough! And if you were able to win a double lotteries by being the only person on the tour and having Audun as your tour guide like me, then you are one very lucky person.

If you are going to spend some time around Stavanger, searching and aiming for hikes and guided tours you can stop searching. This is by far the best agency in town and you will not find any team better than Outdoor life Norway. We (me and my wife) did 2 different tours in consecutive days with Outdoor life norway, the kjerag bolten beat the crowds (5 people guided by Johaness, the agency owner) and the prejkestolen/pulpit rock off the beaten track tour (a 5 people group guided by Erland).

We had Johaness and Erland taking our small group to each of those previously mentioned tours and they worked great. Excellent guides very attentive and full of good informations and knowledge about the places, the hiking techniques, the stories and the flora and fauna of each corner.

If needed, they provide clothes and boots for rental at a fair and good price and also photograph packages with pictures of each of the tours. This is very convenient, because you don´t have to worry about carrying hiking gear, specially if you are visiting other places that dont require the same equipment.

I would hardly recommend Outdoor life Norway to everyone who wants to have a great hike with small groups and off the beaten track trails and tracks, dont having to worry about how to get to each place and also relaxing about studying maps and informations about the visited places.

We were enchanted with both tours we did and we don´t have words enough to thank those guys who took us with joy, happiness and safety to all those wonderfull places. Very recommended agency!!!

This was the best guided tour that i have been on and would recommend this tour to everyone! The company is extremely organised. When booking the tour you receive an email instantly full of helpful information e.g. pick up time, location, what you clothing etc to bring with you! We were picked up exactly on time! They send you reminder emails closer to the time which is very reassuring!

Our tour guide was Johannes, he was so friendly and knowledgable. He made the hike extremely enjoyable and made us feel relaxed by showing us how to get onto kjeragbolten in a safe way! He goes above and beyond to ensure that you get the most out of the trip! As for the views, well they were just incredible! The ‘beat the crowds tour’ meant there were only 4 other people at the top when we got there! It was nice to have dinner enjoying the view! Standing on the boulder was one of the most scary but amazing things I have ever done and you can buy some incredible pictures off the company!

Once again thank Johannes for the most amazing tour! I will be back in the future and will use this tour company to do some other amazing hikes!

I really enjoyed the hike up Kjerag – despite the mist the views were spectacular and Johannes showed us how to safely stand on the boulder at the top. We were even walking in snow near the peak!
To get to the start of the hike the cruise through the Lysefjord was lovely, and i really enjoyed the drive back through the beautiful mountainside to Stavanger. A fabulous day, i will definitely be back and can highly recommend Johannes’ tours!

I went for Kjerag hike on 25 May, that day weather was rough and foggy. We had Johannes as our guide, someone had so much knowledge to share and make you feel safe throughout the hike. The view at Kjerag was just breathtaking and the scenery at the very top truly made you think that it was worth the 6 hour journey! Highly recommended this trip and the company.

5 stars are not enough to describe this wonderful day in Kjerag.
Johannes (God bless him) was Our guide during the hike and he was great!
Johannes picked up the Group early in the morning and drove us for almost 3 hours in a wonderful enviroment and explained carefully the program of the hike: his experience helped a lot because it is a hard hike but once on top you feel in paradise.
It does not matter if you don t go on the Boulder! the hike itself is amazing and in these days there is still the Snow!
These is a great Company.
If I would be in Norway again I will contact it for sure

Please do not hesitate to book a hike with Outdoorlife Norway, it was by far the highlight of our trip. We went to Stavanger specifically for this hike (to Kjerag Rock) and to say it was amazing is the understatement of the year. Johannes is one of the COOLEST people you will ever meet. But beyond that, he has your safety in mind throughout the entire hike and is helping you every step of the way. The hike is certainly not easy, and going out on the rock is the craziest thing I have ever done in my life. But Johannes helps you from start to finish and if I ever return to Norway I will do another hike with his company. I cannot recommend him and his company enough, the reviews on here speak for themselves, I promise you will not regret a hike with Outdoorlife Norway!

I was fotunate to meet both Johannes and Erland between the 2 trips I did with Outdoorlife Norway – Preikestolen off the Beaten Track and Kjerag Summer Hike.

These guys are great fun to spend a day with and there were good laughs along with the fantastic walks and views – I got so much more out of these days with guides than Trolltunga which I did alone.

Having the transport to Kjerag is a huge benefit (+the time getting there flew by) and going off-piste to Preikestolen on a little used trail was so much more entertaining than I’d anticipated.

Well worth every penny. Don’t hesitate to book

Verified review, copied from TripAdvisor

I was dreading the hike to Kjerag after I had hiked up Trolltunga two days before. Experienced hikers told me the Kjerag hike is more challenging than Trolltunga, so initially I felt uneasy about it.

Booking a tour with Outdoorlife Norway was an excellent decision. Not only do they pick you up from a range of places in Stavanger, they don’t leave you behind if you are slightly late/lost. They also offer a photography package, so I didn’t need to worry about lugging a heavy camera up and down the mountain.

Johannes, the owner of the business was my guide. He’s a great guy – professional but it also felt like I was travelling with a friend. The group of people on the tour were wonderful too, encouraging each other throughout the hike. The timing of the hike was spot on. Not long after we reached Kjerag, took photos, had a hot beverage from Johannes and had some lunch, the fog came in thick and fast and then rained. With the good advice from Johannes, we got down the mountain in very good time.

Whether you are an experienced hiker or a beginner like me, I highly recommend hiking with Outdoorlife Norway .

Takk for Turen, Johannes is the best!

The Kjerag hike was the most incredible hike that I’ve ever done and I couldn’t ask for a better guide than Johannes! He was not only really fun, friendly and helpful, but he was also really patient when we wanted to stop to take photos or eat snacks. The hike is challenging and I don’t think I could’ve done it on my own so I’m really glad that I chose to do it with Outdoorlife Norway. I will definitely be back to do another hike with Johannes again as it was one of the best things I’ve ever done and it wouldn’t have been the same without Johannes as a guide! Highly recommend!!

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to hike to kjerag but my husband did. Our guide was Johansen, he was fantastic. Although it was raining that day, my husband and his group, under the lead of guide Johansen, successfully hiked to Kjerag. My husband says that Johansen knows the best route to hike up and down even under challenging weather. It took them 3 hours to hike up the mountain and 2 hours down.

Arriving into Stavanger, I knew I wanted to either do the Preikstolen or Kjeragbolten hike, and luckily Johannes offers both hikes (and more). The Kjeragbolten hike was incredible and Johannes was a great guide- very informative and a lot of fun. The hike is tough- and probably would have gotten incredibly lost if i had attempted the hike solo. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great- but behold- as soon as we got to Kjerag- the weather cleared. Standing on Kjerag is the most exhilarating feeling- and something i would love to do again. I’m hoping i make my way back to Norway again soon- and when i do- I will be returning to Stavanger to do another hike with Johannes. What a guy! Cannot recommend enough!

It was slightly overcast the day we booked the hike, however this only added to the incredible atmosphere and landscape of the mountains and Lysefjord below. The Kjerag boulder lived up to all expectations, it really is an awesome sight to behold. Our guide and company owner Johannes is a skilled and extremely knowledgable guy who will get you to the boulder before the bus loads of tourists/hiking groups. I really liked that throughout the hike he took us off the beaten tourist paths, again adding to the experience and avoiding other hikers. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another trip with Outdoorlife Norway if im ever back in Stavanger. In my opinion, don’t waste time with tourist buses and crowds, book with these professionals and get a hassle free, unique and highly memorable experience. Thanks again Chris

Climbing up to Kjeragbolten is not for the fainthearted or the unfit. I am neither but was very pleased to be part of a small group with an excellent and experienced guide. Johannes led us expertly through technical bits, he was caring and patient, setting a good pace but also allowing everyone to progress without feeling pressured. He also explained very well how to get on the rock and back and he took photos of each of us standing there. I loved the hot berry juice he offered us afterwards. It was delicious. Throughout the scenery is stunning and there are fewer people than on Preikestolen.
We even saw rare cloud berries on the way back. Johannes also ensured that we took different roads on the way from Stavanger and the way back. Both were beautiful rides. Thank you for a great day!
I wish I had known that Outdoorlife Norway offers sunrise / sunset climbs. Would have been magical to be there overnight.

When my friend and I decided to pay a visit to Kjeragbolten I insisted on hiring a guide to take us there and back. Outdoor life Norway came through with flying colors! Johannes, who is the guide, does this trek on average about 6 days a week so he knows how to get to the boulder and back. Besides that, he gives you practical knowledge on how to scale the near-vertical rock faces with the assistance of the chains and keeps the group at a good pace. The day we went, we were a group of 6 hikers plus the guide.

I was also very pleased with the information they provided me after I booked the hike. Helpful tips, such as wearing waterproof clothing and proper hiking boots, were quite useful.

I must also mention that more than one person I had spoken with told me that they attempted the hike without a guide and wound up never seeing the Boulder. And worse, the hike back down to the parking lot where their car was parked proved very challenging as the top is a plateau and if mist or rain obscures your view, finding the trail markers may be quite difficult. I can only imagine how unsettling it would be to be so disoriented at the top of a mountain plateau and have no guarantee that you will get back to your car soon!!

Five shining stars for Johannes and Outdoorlife Norway!! Thank you so much for an adventure of a lifetime!!

I did the Kjeragbolten hike to see the boulder and had an incredible day. In fact, I’m still buzzing from it and it was nearly a week ago! Having read a lot of reviews prior to going, I noticed that the majority of people did the hike without a tour guide. Granted, it’s possible – the hike wasn’t as difficult as I expected it to be and it isn’t far to walk either. However, I’m so glad we did book with these guys, as it makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable; you’re not just hiking with Outdoorlife, you’re experiencing Norway exactly how you should be. I was actually due to hike Preikestolen with a friend the day before (without a tour group) and we had to cancel due to fog and poor visibility. In hindsight, I’m really glad we didn’t go, because now I plan to go back and do the sunrise hike with Outdoorlife Norway as that also look incredible.

Our group was slightly larger than usual so we had both Alan and Johannes with us. Alan is an exceptional photographer and biologist, whilst Johannes guided us and told us endless interesting facts and stories about the area. Both guides were so friendly and easy to chat with. It’s so refreshing to see people who are really passionate about what they do, and their enthusiasm is infectious.

In summary, if you’re thinking about booking, do it – you absolutely will not regret it. Takk for turen!

As an inexperienced hiker, I was very fortunate to have Johannes motivate me and lead the hike. He was very encouraging and knew the best paths to take. He provided walking sticks and hot drinks for us on the tour. Another huge benefit of going with Johannes is that he knows where the best views are at and takes professional photos for you at the rock! Would highly recommend!

One of the most beautiful views of the Lysefjord, and a fun but challenging hike. Not only were the views absolutely breathtaking, but also our guide made the experience richer. Our guide Johannes has such a passion and knowledge of the Norwegian landscape, so it was a pleasure to have him guiding us along the way. I would recommend a trip with Outdoor life Norway and would definitely be back!

Johannes is the perfect guide who effortlessly turned a bunch of 10 strangers into a close team to help each other climb to the top of Kjerag and stand on a large boulder (Kjeragbolten) wedged in the mountain’s crevasse for the ultimate Instagram moment.

Although, the photo’s give the impression that standing on the boulder is incredibly scary, it is much bigger when close up and reassuringly nobody has ever slipped or fell off the precariously placed rock. Maybe, it’s a combination of a survival instinct kicking in and the channelling of one’s inner mountain goat that comes to the rescue when the health and safety risk assessment police are nowhere to be seen.

Our tour began with a two-hour drive into the mountains, and our guide informed the group how the road is closed from October to May, which made this window of opportunity feel quite special. The mini bus contained travellers from all over the world, and the biggest lesson travel teaches us all is the breaking down of stereotypes perpetuated by the media.

Spending a day with a group of strangers from different corners of the world exchanging stories and sharing experiences offers a learning experience that cannot be taught in any classroom.

During the six-hour hike, ten strangers became a close team regardless of any language barriers or differences in fitness levels. The absence of ringing telephones or notification sounds allowed the senses to soak up the beautiful surroundings and reconnect with nature.

Obtaining the right balance between our physical and virtual worlds on this fragile tightrope of life is notoriously difficult. Inter-personal non-technology driven interaction skills are often the first casualties when people live their life through a screen.

Technology does indeed unite people rather than isolate them if used correctly and there really is nothing better than enjoying the beautiful outdoors with friends, loved ones or even with new friends.

After making some incredible memories hiking with my son, he declared that our trip was epic, and these are words that most parents of a teenager seldom hear.

A fully recharged mojo along with memories of walking on an endless summer day with my boy is possibly the greatest gift of all and will probably be the cause of more inspiration than we both realise.

Now we have returned from the adventure; the focus will be on the Instagram moment of that boulder photo. However, what really inspires us and makes us truly happy were the lessons we learned and our surroundings on the long hike up and down the mountain that day.

I consider the experience a real gift that and will be forever grateful to Johannes who helped create a beautiful memory for my son and I.

I would highly recommend going with Johannes for the hike to the Kjerag! He is a great guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and is always ready to help you along the way! 🙂 Hiking to Kjerag was quite challenging and I don’t think I would have reached the Kjerag Boulder on my own! 🙂 p.s Johannes is a great photographer too!!

It’s a nice day and nice trip. The hiking guild Johannes is patient and knows a lot. You could experience a different way to reach Kjerag rock. Johannes is also professional in photograph, he could shoot a nice photo when you standing on Kjerag rock. How unique experience! I wish I could return to Stavanger in a few years.

Priceless hike experience

I doubt I’ll ever be able to realise my dream of standing on the Kjeragbolten without Johannes. The hike was certainly no walk in the park but Johannes led the group skillfully, and he also provided essential equipment as well as step-by-step advice. The group’s safety was always his top priority, and he would never lead us onto a path that would jeopardise it. I’m deeply grateful for the safe and fulfilling hike under his guidance. Takk for turen!

The 1 day hike to kjerag was awesome, truly a life experience! And outdoorlifenorway makes it even better! Since the very beggining of my planning to the hike I was treated well. They pay attention to every detail so their guests can have a great time in their outdoors activities. Johannes literaly guide the hikers since the pick-up point to the very end of the hike. Besides the great views, you can learn a lot in hike with outdoornorway. I fully recommend this experience to anyone who is eager to have a fantastic time in norway

Doing a cool excursion into Norway’s nature was on my to-do-list for my summer holiday. A friend recommended Outdoorlife Norway and I wasn’t disappointed at all.

Our guide Johannes welcomed us in the morning. After a short introduction, he provided information about the hike in a nice and optimistic way. Whether you were an experienced or beginning hiker, you felt welcome and motivated for the hike.

The route to the starting point was already beautiful. During the hike, Johannes provided us with more information and fun facts about the area and the nature.
Due to his approach, we also bonded as a group and we also had enough time to take photos.

Whether you join for the hike or the boulder (or both) the hike is worth joining !
So, if you have time during your holiday in Norway, join this (or one of his other) excursions.

I really want to see Norway’s fjord from top with my own effort, but I am really scared of getting lost or gave up at the starting point. So I decided to try Outdoorlife Norway, and I am happy I made that decision. I am really not a hiker, Kjerag is the most challenging one in my life so far. I was really quite scared, but Johannes the owner of Outdoorlife Norway instructed me step by step and I am happy I have achieved what I want to achieve. 🙂 He is really professional and caring, there will be no better way other than him guiding you! At least from my experience that is how I felt!

Johannes was a fantastic guide! We went to Kjerag today, and me being a first time hiker really gained a lot from Johannes help! Not only was he instructing me how to take each steps, but also encouraged me a lot psychologically so I tried my very best to keep positive mind for the journey! If not for Johannes guiding step by step I would never be able to reach the end point! Really thankful for his professional guide and patience through the whole time. Totally recommending Johannes!:)

Exciting hike & jumping on the Kjerag boulder

We had to hike over 3 hills/mountains. There are some challenging climbs on the way. Your body have to be in good condition for this hike.
The views on the landscape end Lysefjord are unforgettable. Along the hike there still was some snow. Guide Johannes takes us to the places. He also makes a picture of you on the Boulder for your photo book. And oh yeah……..we jumped! What an excitement! Great hike, txs Johannes

We are so glad we chose outdoorlife to take us up the Kjerag. We were picked up right outside our hotel door and drove the 2.5 hours to the base (stopping on the way for last minute supplies). when we first saw the trail we were pretty intimidated But Johannes reassured us we would be fine. He even lent us poles to help us on the way. The hike itself was brilliant! The first part was a test but we were shown the easiest way. We stopped at a beautiful quiet spot for lunch and Johannes made us a lovely blackcurrant drink to keep our sugar levels up. along the way Johannes told us lots of interesting things about nature and the local area. when we got to the top we had plenty of time to explore and Johannes took some brilliant pictures of us on the boulder. He then took us a little further out to a wonderful quiet spot that had an incredible view of the fjord. on the decent the clouds came in a reduced visibility. We would have really struggled on the way back If it wasn’t for Johannes but as he knew the way so well we’re we able to enjoy the spooky atmosphere without having to worry about getting lost. He got us back in one piece and after getting a hot drink and some fresh socks we made our way home. I’m so pleased we decided to go with Johannes as we got see things and learn things that we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. Johannes is the perfect balance of information and comfortable silence to allow you to really experience your surrounds.

This is a great trip: every step when u look back u feel it is unbelievable that u make it.
Our guide Johannas (is this correct?) is very knowledgeable with the different terrain in different peaks, it is interesting to see the pink algae snow under the surface and things about locals. He is very thoughtful for everyone’s need and makes the trip fit for everyone.
Without our team members’ support and help on the road, i will never make it. Nice to meet everyone, and thanx!

I don’t think I can fully express just how much I enjoyed my hiking expedition with OutdoorLife Norway.

Upon arriving in Norway, my sister, brother-in-law and I knew that we wanted to hike Kjerag; however, we were unsure of our ability to successfully navigate the trail ourselves and decided a guided tour would be best. The hike itself was tough at times, but the gorgeous scenery surrounding us more than made up for it. At each step we were wowed by the mountains, the rivers, and the views of the fjord far below us. The fresh mountain air invigorated us with each step and made it easy to keep going. The guided tour through OutdoorLife Norway turned what I’m sure would have been a fun day alone into an amazing adventure. As our guide Johannes set clear expectations on what the trail would be like and what gear we would need to have a successful trip. He was friendly, cheerful and upbeat from the moment he picked us up that morning, and answered all questions with ease demonstrating a definite thorough knowledge of the Norwegian terrain. He set a good pace that allowed everyone to keep up, and stopped occasionally to explain aspects and details of the path that would have passed before our eyes unnoticed had we been hiking alone, which only heightened my appreciation of the trail itself. When we stopped for lunch, he led us to a lovely spot looking over the fjord below and passed around delicious hot cups of locally made black currant juice, a perfect surprise for our hike through the mountains. Once we reached the famous Kjeragbolten he pulled out his camera to take pictures of those in our group who dared to go out onto the rock, and once we had all stepped safely off he passed around some Norwegian chocolate, a sweet little touch to enhance the specialness of that moment.

When I’d first began looking for guided tours up through Kjerag I ended up picking OutdoorLife Norway on a whim and am completely thrilled with my decision. I wholeheartedly recommend any of the excursions offered knowing that a fantastic experience is guaranteed!

I am glad that I booked this guided tour to Kjerag. Picked up at Stavanger centre and enjoyed the 2 hrs beautiful ride to Kjerag. When we arrived the starting point, Johannes, our guide provided the trekking poles at the beginning of our tour. Johannes is a great guide, knowledgeable, friendly, professional and safety-minded and he knows the best trail to climb up and down the mountains and picks the amazing spots to capture panoramic views on the Lysefjord. He warmly provided hot drinks and snacks to keep our energy up during lunch. He also provided tip to get on top of the Kjeragboltan and helped to take that amazing photo. Highly recommended this tour who plan to have a challenging hike to Kjerag.

I signed up for a guided hike with OutdoorLife Norway to Kjerag in late June and had a wonderful experience. There was still a lot of snow on the ground, but Johannes was prepared with poles and spikes for everyone. We were a small group and the hike was at a pace that we could all manage. He even took great pictures of all tour members brave enough to get on the boulder. I highly recommend taking a guided tour and particularly with OutdoorLife Norway. Johannes was friendly, knowledgeable about the area/hike and safety-minded.

My husband and I did the day hike to Kjerag in mid June. Since the area had a very mild spring, there was still a decent amount of snow on the upper part of the trail. Our guide, Johannes, provided spikes for our boots as well as hiking poles at no extra charge. The spikes came in very handy, especially walking back down the very steep third hill in the snow.

I highly recommend doing this hike with a guide. Johannes knew the best ways to get up and down all of the hills. He also knew where the trail actually was and not where people assumed it was since half of it was still covered in snow. He had a great place picked out with amazing views for us to stop for lunch! He even stood in the snow for about 15 minutes waiting to take our pictures as we stood on Kjeragbolten. He promptly sent us pictures that evening that he had taken throughout the day.

The group was small, only about 7 people, so it was a very personalized trip. The views were amazing and it was a rush to be able to stand on Kjeragbolten! I definitely recommend doing this hike, because the views are worth the hike! And I recommend going with Johannes and Outdoorlife Norway. We had a great experience on this trip! If you plan on also hiking to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), I would suggest doing Kjerag first because it makes the hike to Preikestolen seem relatively easy in comparison.

An amazing experience! I’m happy I booked this hike with Outdoorlife Norway. A challenging hike to a very nice view over the Lysefjord. I did the hike mid-June and there was still snow. This gave an extra dimension to the hike. Johannes guided the group very well through the snow!

We did the hike in early June on a day when there was a whiteout on the mountain and the wind was blowing and the rain was coming down.
Our amazing leader and guide Johannes guided our group 7 on an “expedition” to Kjeragbolten. What an experience. Hiking through the snow with all the right gear provided and being encouraged on the trip and having things explained in great detail were all of assistance to our group.
I can thoroughly recommend Johannes and his company to anyone prepared to take on the walk. A must do experience.
thank you Johannes for the experience of a lifetime !!!!.

What an amazing experience! I came completely unprepared not knowing that we would be hiking in knee deep snow (as this was early June) but Johannes made us feel so comfortable and even lent me some necessary gear. The hike was absolutely stunning and what a reward at the end of it too. A must do! Highly recommend Johannes as a guide. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and makes you feel at ease. Thanks Johannes!

I am so glad that I chose to go with OutdoorLife Norway for my hike to Kjerag. As it was very early June, the track was still 80% covered in a thick blanket of snow. Johannes was super prepared and had extra gear for us to hire as well as snow spikes and poles to help us reach our destination.

We met at 7am in Stavanger on the day and drove 2 and a half hours to the start point. The meeting time had been moved earlier so that we could catch some good weather and boy did we catch it! I was so impressed as we got super clear skies the whole hike and were safe in the car again when the rain clouds rolled in. In terms of the hike itself, it was pretty tough with all the snow but so worth it. The most difficult part is the first 3 km where we have to scale 3 mountains with valleys between. After that it was either flat or slight incline until Kjerag. Our guides (Johannes and Ida) was super professional and looked after us all so well throughout the day. Johannes was very knowledgeable on the terrain which helped us a lot during the hike. He also taught us all the safest way to get on to Kjeragbolten for that awesome photo (very helpful particularly to those afraid of heights).

Overall, I would definitely recommend this company if you plan on hiking Kjerag in the snow, if you are not very familiar with hiking on your own or if you just want some fun company along the way.

We did the hike in early June when there was still snow up in the mountains. It was a very unique experience for me, as I have never hiked in snow before! Johannes was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly, views were spectacular and even the route in the car was beautiful. 100% recommended!

I had a great adventure in this day Nike to Kjeragbolten, most of our hike was snow, rain, cold wind, etc…. But What a great guy and guide is Johanness, he really knows the mountain, gave us los of tips and information to make the challenge even safer. I recommend this hike with Johanness company 100%.
Gracias por la experiencia, lo pase muy bien créeme que será uno de los puntos altos de mi viaje. A pesar de las condiciones extremas llegamos a Kjeragbolten, nuestro objetivo.
Cristian (Santiago – Chile )

Enjoyed the hike to Kjeragbolten. More than 95% of the hike was in the snow making it more challenging. Was good to have Johannes to guide us through some difficult patches of terrain. His local knowledge and expertise was well appreciated.
