Due to the possibility of rapidly-changing weather conditions, it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. In the event that your trip needs to be rescheduled for another day or cancelled on short notice, you may choose between joining the rescheduled trip or getting a refund. In the event that weather conditions deteriorate during your trip, it may be necessary to turn around on the trail or head back earlier than planned. If this happens, no refunds will be given.

This tour can also be booked along with overnight accommodation at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. Located just a stone’s throw away from the trail-head, we recommend this modern yet cozy lodge as a place to overnight before and/or after your hike.

MORE INFO / BOOKING

Outdoorlife Norway invites you to experience a unique Preikestolen hiking adventure! Early in the year, you can delight in the crisp stillness of Norway’s long, dark winter. You’ll hike in near-solitude while encountering breathtaking views of Preikestolen and the Lysefjord, which are often blanketed in snow and ice. As springtime approaches, bright green foliage starts sprouting up through the snow and the Lysefjord begins its yearly transformation into a green fjord oasis. The busy summer season may be just around the corner, but visitor numbers remain low. Grab the chance to beat the crowds and enjoy Preikestolen and the Lysefjord during the serenity of Norway’s winter and spring. Conclude your adventure with a visit to the ‘Swords in Rock’ Viking monument and artwork, made by local artist Fritz Røed.

After an early-morning pick-up, your adventure will begin with a 40-minute ferry ride. With a hot cup of coffee in hand, you’ll have the opportunity to view Stavanger from a different perspective and get an overview of the surrounding fjords, islands, and mountains. Your guide will then transport you to the base of the hiking trail.

After a short briefing, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen. Your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain and onward to the mountain’s plateau. Along the way, when trail conditions permit, you’ll hike to lesser-known, exclusive viewpoints. This early in the year, weather conditions are constantly changing and the trail is often covered with snow and ice, even well into springtime. As needed, you’ll adjust the equipment (ice spikes, etc.) to match the changes in terrain. Along the way, there will be opportunities to catch your breath, enjoy a warm beverage, and snap photos of the spectacular nature around you.

After 2.5-3.5 hours* of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. Standing atop the 604-meter-high cliff, the views of the Lysefjord and surrounding mountains are nothing short of awe-inspiring. You’ll be one of the few that have experienced Preikestolen off-season.

After a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge, your guide will lead you back down to the trail-head, which will take about 2 hours. If conditions allow, your guide will take a slightly different route on the way back down from Preikestolen. This alternative path is not found on any maps, and will, therefore, allow you to avoid anyone who might be on their way up the main trail. Your hike will conclude beside Refsvatn Lake, where you’ll enjoy freshly-baked bread and a well-deserved (and delicious!) bowl of homemade soup at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge (February – April).

After a few last breathes of crisp mountain air, you’ll return as a group to Stavanger. On the way back, you’ll navigate a different route, including a second ferry crossing, which offers unique views of the mouth of the Lysefjord. Your adventure will conclude with a stop at the Viking monument and artwork ‘Swords in Rock’, made by local artist Fritz Røed. Here, legend says, King Harald Fairhair’s triumph in battle (between the years of 872 and 900) resulted in Norway finally becoming one kingdom.

(TIP: spending the night at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge is highly recommended – whether it be the night before or the night after our hike.)

Because of the presence of snow and ice, hiking to Preikestolen without a guide during the wintertime (January – March) is not recommended. Our professional guides are trained to safely maneuver through the frozen landscape as well as winter’s rapidly changing weather conditions. They carry with them all necessary navigation, safety, first-aid, and outdoor winter equipment.

Preseason Preikestolen Hike

Must go if youre visiting Norway. Johannes is a great guide, the tour was very enjoyable, I went with fairly fit group so we kept a nice pace, had enough time to chill and go to another viewpoint as per our guide suggestion, if you ask me that was the highlight of the visit.

Thank you!

A wonderful day exploring a beautiful part of the world

Everything about this trip exceeded expectations – from the initial pick up to the end of the day. It was challenging in parts, mostly due to the amount of ice and strong winds – but I felt safe and encouraged throughout by our wonderful guide Mathilde. Whilst I would certainly feel fine to tackle the walk alone in the summer months, the ice meant it would have been quite unsafe for me to do alone at that time of year (mid April). Mathilde was superb – knowledgeable, passionate and considerate at all times. And the views from the top were amazing. A great day out and highly recommended.

Preikestolen Spring Hike

Breathtaking hike and absolutely exceptionaI service from the guides. I cannot say enough good things about Johannes and the rest of the Outdoorlife Norway team. The guides were genuinely friendly and seemed excited to share this beautiful landscape with us. The patience and encouragement offered to my wife (hiking with a minor foot issue) and the rest of our group left a strong impression with me.

Experiencing this incredible landscape is a memory that will remain with me forever. I highly recommend this outfit and the Preikestolen Spring Hike if you’re looking for outdoor activity near Stavanger.

Preikestolen Spring Hike

I did the Preikestolen Spring hike with Outdoorlife Norway. Everything was organised perfectly. Our guide Hilde was excellent – super friendly, knowledgeable, patient and mindful of everyone’s safety. She made our hike that much more special by sharing with us her love of nature. A shout-out to our second guide – Molly the beautiful husky! Our driver was incredibly nice as well (offering some delicious coffee early in the morning served the ‘Norway way’). The small group set this tour apart from other providers – and allowed for a more personal experience (Hilde for example, coordinated introductions early on so that everyone could meet each other). The hike itself this time of the year is fantastic – as it’s off season there were no crowds (which is apparently the case in the summer). The views are beyond words. Thank-you Outdoorlife Norway for a fantastically organised trip! (And thank-you for being one of the few tour operators that ran a tour despite the ongoing ‘Norway Tourism Workshop’, very professional – everyone else seemed to not be doing anything on those days!) Highly recommend! Tak for turen!

Preikestolen spring hike

Ok, I’m going to be long and effusive. My hike yesterday was a day that will live with me forever and Johanes and his team are responsible. I was super fortunate to be hiking on the day they had the whole team out for a pre-season catch up hike. With only two other tourists we were out numbered by the guides – and these are four of the kindest, warm people you could ever hope to meet.
The hike itself was awesome – the weather was kind and the snow and ice gave us some tests as well as creating a magical landscape.
The guides were so patient, interested in our chat and sensitive to our needs. One of our group had issues with a sore foot and I suffer from vertigo. We were looked after, reassured and supported better than our parents would!
And the payoff – standing on the plateau with those views – is utterly extraordinary. We finished with warm soup and then fond farewells to new friends. I’m writing this in Stavanger airport and seem to have got something in my eye as I recall Johanes, Tilda, Petter, Ignaar(?), the pulpit rock and one of my best days ever. Thank you so much, guys.

Recomendables!

Hicimos el hike de otoño al Preikestolen. Los guías muy buenos, atentos y siempre dando información sobre el lugar e historias. No nos toco el mejor clima (mucho viento y nieve) así y todo la caminata fue muy linda!
Muy bueno!

Even better than expected!

We did the spring hike and a guide is very important during this time. We had Hilde and she was fantastic. Great company on the hike. Also using theses guy made it super easy – just being picked up and dropped off was great as we had very little time. Highly recommend this company.

Even better than expected!

I got exactly what I expected, and more. Allen was wonderful as all the reviews state, and the whole hike was zero stress. I got all the photos I wanted, I felt exhilarated, and even on the overcast/snowy day, the hike was beautiful and worth it. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a zero stress hike and wants to see the beauty of the fjords!

Spring Hike to Preikestolen

I did the Spring Guided Tour to Preikestolen with Outdoorlife Norway and it was great!! Our guide was super nice and always ready to help. We went on the last day of March, so we still catched snow and ice on the mountain, and they gave us spikes for our feet, to make the hike easier. In the end of the hike, we had amazing soup down at the lodge.

Nice Preikestolen hike!

We did the Preikestolen spring hike.
It was a very nice experience!
Our guide, Allen, did a great job of guiding the hike and also creating a friendly atmosphere in our group!
Of course the hike itself and the view on the top was memorable.

Over all we really enjoyed this hike and recommend it to everybody!

The awesome and unique.

The infamous Pulpit Rock is nothing short of stunning. The hike to it was not difficult. In March, when I’ve gone there, the weather was very whining. So majority of our hike was done in a foggy and windy environment. Not too bad though.
The rock view was in the fog as well. That day the mountain has decided to hide the view of the Fjord below us as well as the opposite wall of the Fjord. That was a striking view of its own.
The guides were awesome! Molly (the hiking buddy of our group) was running circles around us. She is a very friendly and fit Alaskan Husky. A great gang!

Preikestolen Spring Hike – Amazing!!

I have never written a review on Trip Advisor, but Johannes and his team were exceptional. Our guides were excellent in both their expertise and in their entertainment – we had a very intense, windy hike, and at times the weather was quite discouraging, but our guides were great at making us laugh, and keeping our spirits up. My trip to Norway would not have been as exceptional as it was without this tour, I would not hesitate to take another tour with OutdoorLife!

Preikestolen Spring Hike

What an amazing experience! I signed up for this hike on my own while my husband was working. I was joined by another female visitor to Stavanger – neither of us experienced hikers. Our guide, Erlend Berne, was excellent both in his knowledge of the area/ hike and also ensuring that we had the best possible experience. I would highly recommend this hike to anyone who is looking for a challenge and making a life memory.

Preikestolen- Great hike, Amazing view

We did the Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) hike in mid Feb. This was a perfect day for a hike- great exercise and truly impressive view at the top. We loved every minute! The guide will provide boot cleats and walking poles- you will need them! The hike to the top is medium strenuous but incredibly beautiful There are a few areas where the climbing seemed like it was straight up the hillside, but it was so lovely and fun, it was so worth it. Make sure you are at the meeting point on-time and ready to go. The guide and the ferry will not wait. I can’t say enough good things about our guide, the hike, and the view. DO IT!

A truly first-class hike!

Having hiked up Preikenstolen in the summer I was looking forward to heading up there in the winter months. It did not disappoint! And neither did Outdoorlife Norway who were responsive, helpful and a pleasure to deal with throughout. Our guide, Alan, made it a hassle-free, fun and informative experience, to add to the wonderful hiking and stunning views.

Preikenstolen Hike – Feb 2018

What an amazing experience!

To say the hike up Pulpit Rock is a winter wonderland is an understatement. Although we didn’t get to see the view at the end, as it was quite foggy, the hike itself offered spectacular sights.

Our guide, Alan, was absolutely great – very funny and knowledgeable. We opted for the photography package and got some beautiful fotos as keepsakes.

Make sure you take in the sights of beautiful Stavanger when you’re on the ferry!

We would happily recommend this tour to anybody!

We decided to do a guided tour because it was winter and the route was full of snow and ice. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, everything well explained, all the info and material provided. Our guide was Christoffer and he was very friendly, we had a great day with him, he knew the area by heart and he gave us enough time for pictures and enjoying this amazing landscape!! Winter Hike Preikestolen

I saw the Pulpit Rock on on of those load up screens on your laptop, and when I saw it was only in Norway (not some far-flung corner of the Earth) I decided I had to go. It’s located near Stavanger in the South, and there are cheap direct flights there from the UK. It was definitely worth the trip, this guided hike was excellent. Erlend was our guide, and I felt confident that we were in good hands.

As their blurb says, it’s not recommended to do this hike in Winter without a professional guide, and although we did see the odd person doing just that, I personally would have turned around had I been alone. The first half of the hike has 3 steep ascents, all covered in ice and increasing levels of snow as we got higher, the second half is much less steep, however the snow this high is a couple of feet deep. I’m not the fittest person ever, and I did find parts challenging, but doable.

I chose the package which included a night’s accommodation at the lodge, dinner and breakfast before the hike. I was very pleased with the cost (~£200) which I thought was particularly reasonable by Norway standards. I was the only guest on this particular night, although I imagine it is considerably busier during the season. There were 12 people in my group on the hike however, this is obviously a popular activity even in Winter.

It’s definitely worth making the journey over to Norway, even if this is the only reason for your journey – there’s a real sense of achievement in making it to the top, and even in slightly misty weather, the views are spectacular – a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Outdoor Life!

Preikestolen Winter hike

What a great experience! Alan picked us up on a rainy and cloudy day, but his sunny personality and awesome sense of humor quickly warmed us up. He was a pleasure to hike with.
I would highly recommend the winter hike to anyone interested in seeing Preikestolen. The final destination is obviously spectacular, but what caught me by surprise was the beauty of the actual hike itself. Gorgeous winter wonderland, and you get to have the whole rock to yourself.
All in all a “bucket list” experience and if I’m ever lucky enough to be in Norway again, I will book something with Outdoorlife Norway again in a heartbeat.

Takk for turen!

An amazing experience totally recommended. Our guide, Alan, picked us up and took us to the ferry, then we headed to preikestolen. The ferry trip goes quite quick, it doesn’t feel like 40 minutes.

Once we got there he explained a few things about the hike and gave us crampons and poles. The path was completely covered with snow. The beginning of the hike is quite impressive and can put you off ( I definitely struggled!).There are three big hills that can be tricky, particularly for us, as the whole path was covered in deep snow. The hike is breath taking, we walked through lakes and valleys to finally get to the rock.

We were lucky enough to be alone up there (apparently in summer is quite crowded) an experience that we appreciated as it feels really special and you are in complete contact with nature. The pictures are just spectacular! Once up there, the weather changes radically, we made it in time to take a couple of pictures with a beautiful sunshine and an spectacular view of the fjord but after that it became quite windy and cloudy. Our guide provided us with a warm drink at the perfect time!
After hiking for 3 hours we wondered how were we going to make it back but the way back to the parking was very easy and enjoyable.
The experience with outdoor Norway was very pleasant and I would definitely book with them again, they give you a true experience of Norway during quiet times and they really seem to care about nature!

Pulpit Rock[s]! Winter Hike Recommended!!

If you’re travelling to the Stavanger Region, this trip is an absolute must! We were bowled over with the service we received from Outdoorlife Norway, our tour guide and the cost of the trip.

It may seem, to those unfamiliar with exchange rates, that 1,090kr is a lot of money to ‘walk up a hill’ but it is, by far, the best £100 I have ever spent. This is the most breath-taking view I have ever witnessed and I am a frequent traveller. The excursion includes: a guided walk, snacks, a hot fruit drink, transport to and from your hotel, a ferry and of course the crampons/poles needed to complete the trek. You can rent other necessary items from the tour operator, either by pre-booking or paying in cash on the day.

It is not an overly challenging hike, but the snow (and the cold) means you need to have the correct equipment. It is important, if not mandatory, that you read the requirements and recommended packing list before you arrive. DO NOT CONSIDER THIS TREK IF YOU ARE UNFIT – you may be asked to return to the lodge for your own, and the group’s safety, and may be left disappointed.

Can’t wait to see the photos taken by Erland (our tour guide). It’s so worth paying a little extra to ensure you have a great set of memories. Judging from the previous albums online, the quality is going to be excellent.

Thanks again, we had a blast!

Excellent winter hiking

I’d always been keen to do Preikestolen in winter having been up on several occasions in summer, but I’ve had little winter hiking experience previously. After a convenient pickup in central Stavanger and a scenic ferry / car journey, our guides on the group trip, Erlend & Johannes made sure we had all the right winter gear and led a very interesting and enjoyable hike to the top. Weather conditions were incredible, and doing this trip in winter is a very different and worthwhile experience, even if you’ve been there before. We even had the bonus of seeing a white-tailed (sea) eagle soaring across the fjord!
I would highly recommend the guided hikes organised by Outdoorlife Norway.

Preikestolen Winter Hike

Absolutely fantastic! Friends and family were genuinely concerned that I was gonna go on this hike at winter time. It was so nice to prove them wrong! Our guide Erlend, funny and professional, made sure we had all the necessary gear to get there safely. The weather was stunning with fresh snow, wind still and with a tint of sun. Could not have asked for a better day. Weather can change quickly in Norway, and luckily for us they rescheduled our hike by 1 day as there was a storm brewing, that most likely would have blown us of the edge. Service was prompt and timely, with good old Norwegian folktales in the mix. Would definitely use these guys again for the next mountain I’m afraid to climb on my own!

Preikestolen – winter hiking

This place is fascinating and going there during winter was an amazing experience. If you want to have a more ‘selvage’ experience of the place, with less people around, it will be perfect going during winter. The guide was a local guy called Christoffer, who know very well the place and is very kind and caring! I loved every detail and strongly recommend the Outdoorlife tour company! Perfect Day Hike

Our Preikestolen hike was on the second day of the winter season and we were so lucky to have a beautiful fine day with no wind. We passed a few people doing the hike unguided but even so, booking with Outdoorlife was a great decision! Johannes and Erlend were excellent as guides, both are very personable, knowledgeable about not only the area but a broad range of topics and they are genuinely interested in their guests. They really made the day stress free with everything from the pickup and ferry being organised through to keeping an appropriate pace and frequent stops for photos and to catch your breath. Their enthusiasm for the area and love of their job really shows and makes a perfect day even better! Absolutely recommended!

Breathtaking Views, and Great Guides!

I chose to do the winter hike to Preikestolen, and would absolutely recommend doing it at this time of year. The trail was basically empty, and once we got to the cliff, we had the whole place to ourselves and had the opportunity to take once in a lifetime pictures. Magical winter day hike to Preikestolen

I only had one day in Stavanger and had alwast wanted to hike to Preikestolen. Found this little company online that offers hikes yearround.
Picked up and dropped off at my hotel by very friendly and welcoming guide and owner Johannes.
Total group consisted of 6 people. The conditions were fantastic, 25 cm of fresh snow everywhere and sun shining through the trees. Only one person had beaten us to the top, but other than him, we were the only ones there. Some people followed us later on.
Johannes equipped us with spikes under our shoes, walking sticks and a warm beverage on top of the pulpit rock. It was quite a hike for him, plowing through fresh thick snow and making a clear path for us. He clearly marked and cleared snow-hidden crossing creeks, tricky and steep steps. His positive and mindful attitude contributed to a very special experience. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to truly enjoy Norway’s beautiful nature!

Nice hike, good guide

I would definitely recommend outdoor life Norway. Especially in Winter it is hard to get to the start of the hike, so it is good to be picked up and taken there. While there is snow, the marks that lead the way are hard to find, so it is very useful to have a guide – who was very friendly and competent.

A wonderful day full of magnificent views, great photos and memories for life

I took a winter hike 2 days ago now with outdoor life Norway and it was a great day. It’s a very well organised trip. As we were a larger group we were split into two groups and are guide Allen was very attentive and knowledgeable. He used our driving time well to engage the group and used the time so that we could get to know one another.
He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area even recommending me a wonderful Ethiopian restaurant in Stavanger to try but that’s for a separate review.
He took some wonderful photos of the group and knew the best places to take photos that would give you the best views, can’t recommend the Preikstolen hike enough. I would come back again in a heartbeat.

Recommend Preikestolen Winter Hike!!!

Was so happy to find out that you can do the Preikestolen winter guided tour, as I was bit concerned due to the snow and icey conditions, however our tour guide Ole took care of us tremendously. He came with his dog Kenny which added a lot of fun and humour to the trip. There were 7 of us in total, some did not have the appropriate clothing so he suggested and offered his advice. Crampons, poles, and shoes etc were also provided. Ole was very attentive throughout to those less experienced hikers. He also took photos for us and told us the best spots. Hot drink and snacks were also given which were nice. Overall an excellent 3800m hike, recommend it if you come in the winter to avoid the crowds. I willconcur Kjerag next time 🙂

Perfekter Tagesausflug

We were staying in Stavanger for a conference and I found this awesome hike for my husband to go on while I was at the conference. This company was awesome. They picked him up from the hotel and had a small group (8 people) they took on the hike. He had a great time and said the guide was really helpful. They provide the necessary winter equipment and even take photos for you. Views were amazing! Not crowded like it can be in summer. Highly recommend this company and this trip!

Loved it, fantastic hike

We did the Preikestolen Winter Hike and loved the experience. Johannes, our guide and the owner of the business, was amazing and you could see his passion and love for what he does. He was very patient with everyone in our group, and lots of information about the area to share. While locals might be fine to do the hike by themselves in winter, but for visitors I would recommend the guided hike due to not knowing the track, the conditions, and just the general experience of having someone help you out and keep you informed. We definitely needed the spikes to go over our shoes (the spikes were provided with the tour) to help us get over the ice.
The hike itself wasn’t as strenuous as I’d expected, more just the difficultly of walking across the ice. Anyone who is younger will manage fine, people over 50 or 60 who walk alot and are in decent physical shape will also find it manageable, but maybe more challenging. If you have bad knees, tape them up or get a brace prior to the hike, or have a good management plan afterwards (advice from a physio).
The view from the top certainly makes it worth it.

Once in a life time trip.

I came all the way from Australia for this. If you have a chance to go and do it with outdoor life! My Guide Allan(sorry I forgot the Norge spelling) was fantastic. I was the only one on the hike (which I’m sure they lost money on) but it was no problem. He was funny and very professional. you definitely need a guide. I personally saw one person who had an accident and others wandering off in the wrong direction only to be pulled up by Allen out of concern for their welfare. The hike was amazing and fun and the pay off was the best. We had the rock to our selves! Go in winter and enjoy the ice and snow as well as the lack of crowd. Two days latter I’m still buzzing about one the best experiences of my life. Thank You out door life!!!! I wish I could give more than 5 star review!

Personal and informative!

My friend and I were in Stavanger for 3 days and booked two trips with Johannes – Preikestolen Winter Hike & Winter Snowshoe Hike. Both trips with Johannes were with very small groups (just my friend and I in fact!) which made the experience very personal and memorable. As promised, there were snacks (nuts) and a hot drink (black currant juice) at the top. We came during the off season, so the conditions for the snowshoe hike weren’t great (icy wind) but Johannes reminded us that the goal was get closer to nature – sometimes that’s not comfortable. I would book again with Outdoorlife Norway in a heartbeat, I don’t think there’s any other way to safely explore nature in Norway!

Great hike

Loved our winter hike to preikestolen! Our guide Oula (probably spelled that wrong) and his adorable dog Kenai (probably spelled that one wrong too) we’re knowledgeable and fun for the trip. We didn’t have a car so it was nice being picked up and dropped off at our hotel and not have to worry about transportation, especially since cabs are so expensive here. We were provided hiking poles, chains for our boots, nuts for a snack and delicious, hot fruit drink during the trip. Totally worth the money for such a great experience and magical views of Norway!!

Great hike up Preikestulen with amazing view of the fjord

Really enjoyed the hike up to Preikestulen! Definitely recommend the tour, the group was really small and Johannes was a super nice guide. We went in January so luckily there weren’t many people round this time of the year. All in all the trip wasn’t too difficult (4 hours in total), but make sure to bring proper clothes & shoes

Preikestolen, we visit on beginning of April, that is early of spring and the light rain is on that day. Anyway, we move on for hiking and thanks for proper cloth & waterproof shoes that Alan our guide from Outdoorlife Norway recommend for changing to avoid feeling wet & cold. The way up is not too difficult we can see different beautiful nature along the way. Finally, we reach the top, a hazy view we get and cannot see quite clear for the preikestolen and whole fjord, but anyway we made it. It is a good memory. Thanks again, Alan for our good guide, you are the man for such kind of this job, love & protect nature to last long, and I love warm berry drink you bring & photo you took.

Booking an excursion with Outdoorlife Norway is one of the best decisions you can make. Their easy to use website offers a wide variety of activities for different skill levels. Each page offers a well composed synopsis of what to expect of the tour. The description will include terrain, estimated time frame for activity, and difficulty level. The company was formed and is operated by Johannes, a passionate, optimistic individual who truly enjoys sharing Norway’s outdoor beauty with everyone. With a strong background in tourism, Johannes makes each tour as informational as much as it is fun. And ladies, it doesn’t hurt that he is quite handsome! Erland, another guide with Outdoorlife Norway adds a great dimension with his background in Biology. It was fascinating to learn about local flora and fauna. The company also offers photos with each tour to capture those once in a lifetime experiences. All in all, if you want to see some beautiful destinations and earn those views, Outdoorlife Norway is a must! You will not regret it.

It was my first time to hike, actually climb huge rocks. My hiking experience was limited to gentle ascends and forest floors. My guide, Johanes, was very patient, ensuring not only I made it to the summit, but also enjoyed the climb. The scenery was breath taking. I also enjoyed learning about the history of the fjords, local legends, anecdotes. Johnaes took great pictures, and introduced us to a typical soup served in Norway. The hike was well organized and enjoyable.

It wasn’t easy trying to figure out how exactly to get to Preikestolen via google search or trying to determine what the conditions were going to be like in early spring. I wasn’t able to find anything with specific dates or confirming whether buses were running or to let me know if I needed to bring crampons, for example. So I totally lucked out finding Outdoor Norway- it was hassle free, transportation arranged for you, equipment could be rented if I needed. All great things!

But what makes Outdoor Norway stand out from all the rest is really Johannes. He’s fantastic! Super knowledgeable about the Norwegian outdoors, history and interesting tidbits about the mountain, hiking culture, stories about famous and not-so-famous hikers, as well as what’s going on today in terms of environmental threats, social and economic changes, and so on. You get backstories and learn about stuff you wouldn’t even know about if you didn’t have a guide. Aside from the educational part, he’s also great about having a sense of what his tour groups want to see and what they’re capable of – he led us up the mountain on the normal path hours before the crowds got there and down some unmapped, back country trails which was awesome- there would have been no offtrail exploring in the snow/ice/slush for me without him. Easily worth the price to see and experience the place in a way that doing it solo wouldn’t have allowed for.

Johannes is also friendly and chatty, interested in learning as much from his guests as we were in learning about him and the hike. He took a few great pictures of the hike, brought along some Norwegian “hiking chocolate” to share, and was a great guide to spend the day with.

Takk for turen, friend!

I’ve visited norway in late march-early april. My intention was visiting Pulpit Rock, but it was sheduled to start only 16 april. I was very dissapointed because of that, and than @Stavanger tourist information i was told that its possible to go with Outdoorlife Norway. We started early in the moorning, the weather was amazing, experienced guide, cool group. I enjoyed it very much, climbing the rocks is a little challange but it completly worth the result. Highly recomendable to go Pulpit Rock(Preikestolen) and Kjerag low season with Johannes or his collegue, price is reasonable and includes transport, ferry, hiking equipment and soup after your hike. Completly enjoyed it!

My dad and I did the hike with Johannes on the last day of March. The tour went smoothly, with plenty of stops to enjoy the beautiful views, ample time at the top and a hearty soup at the lodge after. Johannes made sure we were properly equipped with poles and crampons and at no point did we feel unsafe despite the changing weather. This was absolutely one of the highlights of our Scandinavian trip.

It was my first time to hike over boulders and rocky terrain. I was slow because I did not want to lose my footing. Johannes was extremely patient, and did not attempt to rush me. In addition, he took great pictures of the hike and the scenery to share with family and friends. His knowledge of the area, history and culture was an added bonus.

Also, I had inadvertently booked the wrong day, but Johannes was able to work around my travel schedule and arranged a different day. Having experience the Fjords, I feel I would have missed an experience of a lifetime. I have experienced heaven on Earth. It is a must see with a knowledgeable guide.

This was excellent experience from Erlund and Outdoorlife Norway.

It was not just an ordinary hike to Preikestolen, it was also a guide into the plants and trees that grow in the area.

Also there are few hidden paths that only the guide know that leads to good scenic spots to take pictures.

Not to mention, Erlund makes a good photographer, the pictures are amazing. This trip is highly recommended.

The hike was absolutely amazing for two reasons the guide who had knowledge of the area and the spectacular views.
It was just me on the trip but I got the best attention to detail.
I loved the entire experience
And would do it again
Outdoor life Norway is the best guided tour I have been to.
And I had my pictures taken and there was enough time for me to take as many pictures as I wanted and the next day I got the guides pictures that were of amazing quality
All in all best experience ever. Well worth it.

Easy pickup and ride to the start point. Hike was 2 hours each way and you don’t need to be super fit. We saw lots of other people on the way up but on the way down Johannes took us via unmarked trails. Very special. Superb value for money with a very friendly guide. We were lucky to have a clear day with 30km views.

We did the Pulpit Rock hike. I can honestly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see the Pulpit Rock and something extra on the side.

Johannes was our guide and what a wonderful person he is. Humble en kind. He knows his fair share about Norway and the natureall. The stories he told us, while we stopped to catch our breath or watch the surroundings, were interesting and pleasant to listen to.

When we arrived at the rock we where the first visitors which made it even more spectaculair. He told us he always tries to get to the rock before other people. I my oppinion another thing why you should choose Outdoorlife Norway. They are willing to go that (special) extra mile.

The road back was very different from the road up. At other touroperators you dont get to see, what we saw. Thank you For that, guys!

Back at the bottom, delicious hot soup was served and we got the change to talk about the hike and our experiences with our fellow hikers.

Almost sad when the trip came to an end, we were taking back to our pick-up point with lots of great memories.

We will be back again for another hike!

We arranged the hike online which was very efficient. All the necessary information was available.

The pick up was well on time and we were greeted by our tour guide, Erlend, who made us feel comfortable and entertained despite being mixed with strangers within the hiking group. As most of the hikes, it was a tough one but we were provided with good equipment to ease the hike.

The hike up lasted for about 3 hours or so, including the several stops that we made. The view was so breathtaking and definitely one of the best I have seen! Erlend took several amazing photos that he emailed the day after.

Overall, I strongly recommend this hiking experience with ourdoor Norway. It was well organized and we had far better experience than following the trial by ourselves.

Me and my partner had an awesome day hiking up the Preikestolen!! we joined a group guided by Erlend, the friendliest guide ever!!! We were picked up from our hotel in the morning to start this amazing hike. I’m so glad I did it, it’s definitely worth doing, the scenery is breath taking, absolutely amazing. Our tour guides were Johannes and Allan, what an absolute pleasure meeting them. Allan is just a gem, he made the whole trek seem easy, we talked all the way! He is soo into nature and showed us so many things.. He is a very good guide.. Almost forgot, he is also an amazing photographer!!! The pictures were fab!!! I look well in them all. Thank you both so much for the experience we both appreciate it.

PS the soup after the hike was lovely.

I did this hike with Johannes and Adam in March 2016, it was truly exceptional.

As a pair they are both very knowledgeable of the area and are able to take you safely off the usual tracks which get flooded with other people enjoying the attraction.

When I did this tour it was the first time Adam and Johannes had has a completely full booking, i’m positive that that spell is over and they will be full for the future.

I had considered doing the trip alone but then once I realized how reasonable the cost was at 1090 KRO I found it was much more viable to do it as a tour.
Johannes provided us with snacks along the way and took us all for some freshly prepared soup at the lodge once we finished the hike.

I would strongly recommend this experience and would gladly do it again on my next visit to Norway.
This was a fantastic trip and I wish them all the best.

It was one of the best trip! And this trip had make me fall in love with the beauty of Norway! Johannes and Allan are the best tour you could ask very friendly and always telling stories about every single stops which makes the journey wonderful 😀 preikestolen winter spring hike - Preikestolen Winter / Spring Hike - 1f600I would certainly recommend if you love nature and wanted to try something fun in Norway

Nur Hafizah I

We took the trip with some friends during early spring. We were joined together with 3 other tourist and met our guide Erlend near the tourist information centre.
Travel time is 30mins drive to the port plus 40mins boat then another 30mins to the base camp.
Erlend provided some walking sticks and snow spikes for the shoes since it is still early spring and some ice are still expected on some paths.
The walk is about 3 hrs as we were moving slow due to the ice. There are some steep climb but will not be a problem for anyone.
The view from the top is breathtaking. Those who can date and are not afraid of height can sit on the ledge looking down to 604m drop. However, even slightly close the edge will be a good place to stand to get a photo of the fjords.
This trip is recommended for any planned visit to Stavanger!
I would like to return when I have time.
Kudos to Outdoorlife for this tour and to Erlend for being patient!

With very few companies offering a tour of Pulpit Rock earlier in the year, we considered hiring a car and making our way there ourselves. I am now so glad we did not. All the hassle was taken out of actually getting there by Johannes and Alan (the great tour guides who are both nice, funny and knowledgeable) and on the hike itself they get you there safely, taking some unusual routes off the beaten track the few others know about.

The views on this walk are spectacular and Google images doesn’t really do it justice – you have to see it for yourself. I would strongly advise people to take this tour earlier in the year as according to Johannes summer will be very busy.

All in all, I cannot speak highly enough of this small, but great little company. Johannes is just a great outdoors type of person who gets a real kick out of seeing others enjoying hiking – which I guarantee you will do!

We did it in snow and foggy weather. Although it was no sight it was a great experience and we had a lot of fun. Thanks to our experienced and responsible guide Allan and a great hiking group from all over the world! Takk for turen! Kai

The most memorable hike ever! Johannes is a really passionate nature guide, along with his colleague Erlend. We were provided with shoe spikes and hiking pole for our safety. Fly all the way from south east asia and have totally NO regret to have first experience of winter hike and glad to join OutdoorLife Norway with a team of good guides on winter hike to Preikestolen. A passion for nature, professionalism, safety come first are bringing hikers confidence, enjoy the hike journey and worth catching the amazing views on top. To wear ice spikes made the hike easy along some snowy and icing patches in the terrain, have free of charge fresh ice stick are really great experience for me who live in 365 summer days. It is highly recommend to everyone who has no worry and love to have some adventure hike experience.

We came to Norway to experience adventure and phenomenal views; and Johannes is the man to deliver exactly that. He has professionalism, yet is very charismatic and easy to talk to. He has in-depth knowledge of hiking all around Norway and abroad, and shared great insight into Norwegian culture and Preikestolen itself. We felt like the entire experience couldn’t have been more perfect, and this is due entirely to Johannes and his careful planning and ability to guide. It was an extraordinary way to spend our three year anniversary together and we highly recommend to everyone and will be sure to spread the good word to family and friends. Cheers, James and Maddie 🙂

Johannes is an excellent guide, he was born to be a guide, he is that good. He gets to know everyone in the group, remembers everyone’s name, provides interesting facts whenever we took breaks on the hike. Took just the right amount of breaks, not too many and at the most scenic spots. He brought extra boots and rain protection in case someone needed it (which they did). Going during the winter is amazing because of the juxtaposition of water, ice, and snow. We had the hike and the mountain to ourselves.

3 weeks before our visit to Stavanger we decided to book the winterhike to Preikestolen. The forecast back than was really cold winter weather and snow, so we were confident it would stay that way… Unfortunately the weather changed a week before we came and the snow melted away. Snowzilla fortunately saved some snow for Europe and the night before the hike the mountains were glazed by a white layer of snow!

We were picked up early in the morning in the centre of Stavanger and drove to Preikestolen where we started the winter hike. Johannes and his intern Erlend were great guides, knowleadgeable about the area and gave good tips on how to walk in this winter conditions with the equipment they provided us with. We were with a small group of my 2 friends and 3 others.

The winterhike to Preikestolen took us a total of 6 hours of which we spent around an hour on the top. Especially in winter I would recommend to book the trip with Outdoorlife Norway. They provide you with the right equipment, gave good advice on what to take with you from home and they know the dangerous bits of the hike, In summer there are hundreds of people doing the hike but in winter you are by yourself. It is safer to go with a guide who knows the area and conditions!

It was AWESOME! We were very lucky because the night before the hike it had snowed a lot. It was an amazing experience to be the first (and almost only one) who walked there that day. I went together with 2 friends and 3 others joined as well. It was a nice group and both Johannes and Erlend were great guides. We spent almost an hour on the top, enjoying the view and making many pictures. The hike was a nice challenge. In Holland we’re not really used to walk in the mountains and snow but I really loved it! It was great that we got spikes for our shoes which made walking a lot easier.

It was such an incredible experience hiking to Preikestolen in the winter. We had perfect weather and were virtually alone – it was only our group up on the rock for the whole time we were there! The views were incredible the whole way up – it felt unreal. I was told that I needed to come up with new a new phrase as I was constantly saying, “wow” and “amazing”.

Johannes was an amazing guide and the gear and service he provided was top notch. Would love to do this again!
