About 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice-age, massive glaciers formed Norway’s rugged landscapes and fjords. Some of the world’s most spectacular outdoor scenery can be enjoyed from atop Kjerag, Preikestolen, and Trolltunga, which were all formed as melting glaciers scraped their way down toward sea-level. Preikestolen, a granite monolith, hangs 604 meters above the Lysefjord, while Kjerag’s massive boulder is suspended a heart-stopping 984 meters over the fjord. Trolltunga, or the troll’s tongue, is a long rock that juts out from a cliffside 700 meters above the north side of Ringedalsvatnet lake. The three landmarks share the distinction of being amongst Norway’s most popular tourist destinations. In 2017, approximately 300,000 hikers were expected to find their way up to Preikestolen, which is Norway’s most popular outdoor destination. Although much less accessible than Preikestolen, both Kjerag and Trolltunga were expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors each.
NOTE: Because of the presence of snow and ice, hiking to Preikestolen, Kjerag, and/or Trolltunga without a guide during the offseason is not recommended. Our professional guides are trained to safely maneuver through the frozen landscapes as well as the seasons’ rapidly changing weather conditions. They carry with them all necessary navigation, safety, first-aid, and outdoor winter equipment.
Please do not book tours that exceed your skill-level/physical abilities. (read more)
