Stavanger, Norway’s fourth-largest city, is situated on a coastal-peninsula and is surrounded by fjords, mountains, and low-lying terrain. It has a rich cultural history dating back to the 9th century, which includes iron-age farms, viking landmarks, and Norway’s oldest cathedral.
Would you like to spend a day outside learning about Stavanger’s cultural history and natural surroundings? Join Outdoorlife Norway on a guided 4-hour cycling tour and experience the best panoramic views the city has to offer!
Your guide will meet you at Outdoorlife Norway’s office in Stavanger (see above for address) where you’ll be allocated a suitable bicycle and helmet. After a quick briefing, you’ll be on your way, headed towards the city’s best viewpoints. From above, you’ll get a panoramic view of the heart of Stavanger, which is comprised mainly of 18 – 19th century red-roofed, wooden houses. On the horizon, you’ll be able to see some of the fjords and mountain ranges that surround the city.
Your guide will then lead you out of the city through charming, historic neighborhoods and onward to the peninsula’s highest hilltop, Ullandhaug. From there, you’ll get an extraordinary view of the entire region. On clear days, you’ll be able to see all the way to the North Sea as well as Norway’s inland mountain massifs. From there, your guide will lead you onward to one of the city’s most historic monuments, Swords in the Rock, where you’ll rest for lunch on the edge of the Hafrsfjord bay. After the break, you’ll cycle back towards the city. Along the way, you’ll pass some of Stavanger’s pristine lakes and rugged north Atlantic coastline.
