Stavanger Snowshoe Hike

Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 3 customer ratings
(3 customer reviews)

PRICE: 1,290 NOK per person

Have you ever been hiking through the snow? Just a stone’s throw outside of Stavanger, the region’s majestic mountains rise hundreds of meters straight out of the sea. High on the mountaintops, thick layers of snow continue to blanket the landscape well into springtime. Join us on a hike into the snow-capped mountains and experience Norway’s long cold winter, on snowshoes!

Our professional guides know where to find the best snow-conditions on any given day, and will plan your hike accordingly. While being transported to the hiking trail, which takes between 1-2 hours, you’ll pass through a variety of dramatic landscapes. Some of the things you can look forward to seeing include fjords, mountains, waterfalls, boulder fields, isolated farm villages, and steep granite walls towering over u-shaped valleys that were carved out by glaciers.

At the trail-head, your guide will introduce you to the art of hiking with snowshoes and then lead you on a 4-hour adventure through what can only be described as a winter wonderland. Along the way, the guide will search for the best vantage points for you to view Norway’s spectacular wilderness. There will be short breaks along the way for snapping photos and learning about local nature. During your lunch-break, you’ll have time to take in the beauty and serenity of the unique nature around you.

To ensure that you’ll meet as few people as possible on the trail, your guide will diligently search for opportunities to hike ‘off-the-beaten-track’. Our goal is to maximize the quality of your experience and interaction with Norway’s pristine nature.

MODERATE DIFFICULTY – Suitable for people of most ages – excluding children younger than 12 yrs. – who are in general good condition, and have previous hiking experience.

Have you ever been hiking through the snow? Join us on a hike into the snow-capped mountains and experience Norway’s long cold winter, on snowshoes!

Warmer winds brought north by the Gulf Stream, combined with Stavanger’s coastal location in south-western Norway, means that the city is one of the first in Norway to welcome springtime. However, just a stone’s throw outside of Stavanger, the region’s majestic mountains rise hundreds of meters straight out of the sea. While people have already begun to enjoy grilling and picnics in Stavanger, thick layers of snow continue to blanket Norway’s mountaintops well into springtime.

After pinpointing the best snow-conditions for your hike, one of our professional guides will meet you in Stavanger at approximately 07:30am. The precise time depends on your chosen meeting-point. (Please select a meeting-point when booking). During the 1-2 hour drive (dependent on the time of year + weather conditions) to the base of the hiking trail, you’ll pass through a variety of dramatic landscapes. Once you have arrived at the hike’s starting-point, your guide will introduce you to the art of hiking with snowshoes, before leading you through what can only be described as a winter wonderland. Along the way, the guide will search for the best vantage points for you to view Norway’s spectacular wilderness. There will be breaks along the way for snapping photos and learning about local nature. If you’re lucky, you’ll even see wild animal tracks in the snow =) About half-way through the hike, your guide will find a beautiful spot for a coffee/lunch break. After being served a warm beverage and a small snack, you’ll have time to take in the beauty and serenity of the unique nature around you.  The total length of your snowshoe hike will be approximately 4 hours.

I’m beyond happy with my snowshoeing experience with Outdoorlife Norway. The scenery was breathtaking and the hot black currant juice on our break was just what we needed! The snow gave way to sun and the wind made the day feel like a North Pole expedition. It was amazing. I’m a seasoned snowshoe-r and I had as much fun as the others in the group who had never been. If you are looking for a unique Stavanger experience, do not miss out on the opportunity to check out the country side by snowshoes.

I had a great time at Outdoorlife Norway. Johannes (the owner) and Sol (his assistant) were great and awesome guides. They know it’s my first time to do snowshoe hiking, they keep on asking if I’m okay and adapted to my pace. They gave me lots of information about the place and had a good conversation with them during the trip. If I’ll come back to Norway, I would like to try their 5-day hike and other hiking day trips. Of course! I will highly recommend Outdoorlife Norway to my friends and other people who are interested to have memorable trip in Norway. 🙂 🙂 🙂

My friend and I were in Stavanger for 3 days and booked two trips with Johannes – Preikestolen Winter Hike & Winter Snowshoe Hike. Both trips with Johannes were with very small groups (just my friend and I in fact!) which made the experience very personal and memorable. As promised, there were snacks (nuts) and a hot drink (black currant juice) at the top. We came during the off season, so the conditions for the snowshoe hike weren’t great (icy wind) but Johannes reminded us that the goal was get closer to nature – sometimes that’s not comfortable. I would book again with Outdoorlife Norway in a heartbeat, I don’t think there’s any other way to safely explore nature in Norway!
