Tour Description

Flørli, which has been inhabited on and off since at least the seventeenth century, is beautifully located amidst 1000-meter-high mountains along the southern shore of the Lysefjord. In 1916, construction began on a hydro-electric power plant, which supplied electricity to the city of Stavanger from 1918 until 1950.

Tour itinerary
Your day trip to Flørli begins when your dedicated, professional guide picks you up in Stavanger. You’ll be driven by private van to the shore of the Høgsfjord, where you’ll board a passenger ferry. During the 1 hour, 45 min. boat trip to Flørli, the ferry will start-off by navigating under a suspension bridge that spans the mouth of the Lysefjord. It will then transport you further into the fjord and where you will pass waterfalls, abandoned farms, and the famous Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) cliff, which towers 604 meters (1,982 feet) above sea-level.

Once at Flørli, your guide will lead you up the 4,444 wooden steps that parallel the powerplant’s old water pipes. At first glance, they seem to be precariously clinging to the mountainside. Reaching an elevation of 750 meters (2,461 feet) above sea-level, Flørli is the longest wooden staircase in the world. On the way up, you’ll enjoy jaw-dropping views of the Lysefjord and surrounding mountains. Once you’ve reached the mountaintop, your guide will lead you along a trail through the forest and onward to the remains of the Flørli village.

Following the hike back down to sea-level, you will visit the Flørli 4,444 Power Café, which is located inside the historic hydro-power hall built in 1916. If time allows, you will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition in the control room and learn more about Flørli’s unique history. Your group will then be transported back to Stavanger on a high-speed ferry, which takes about an hour.

This is a demanding 4-hour, ~6 km (3.7 miles) hike with a total ascent of just over 750 meters (2,461 feet). It is suitable for people who are in very good condition and have previous hiking experience. Not suitable for people with knee injuries.

Preikestolen Hike "Off the Beaten Track"

Are you up for an unforgettable hiking adventure? Avoid the crowds by hiking with a guide in near-solitude while encountering out-of-this-world views of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord – which only few have seen.

Preikestolen Sunrise Hike

Hike to Pulpit Rock during the early-morning twilight hours – before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.

Kjerag Autumn Hike

Witness the magic of autumn’s shifting colors and Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking in near solitude. Snow, when present, contrasts splendidly with the flame-colored foliage. Join us on a guided hike to the Kjeragbolten boulder before the season comes to a close.
