Degree of Difficulty
Do you have a limited amount of time in Stavanger but would still like to experience the region’s spectacular fjord nature? Would you prefer to avoid the crowds and hike in near-solitude? The Lysefjord View Hike is a perfect trip for people on a tight schedule and those who would prefer a shorter, more peaceful hike. The ‘fjord of lights’ is one of Ryfylke’s most magnificent destinations. As one of Norway’s most photographed areas, it offers visitors spectacular views around every bend.
Your dedicated, private guide will meet you at the location you selected when booking. Your adventure will begin with a 30-minute transfer to the base of the hiking trail, including driving the world’s longest undersea road tunnel. To ensure your trip is as peaceful as possible, your guide will lead you up a trail that is rarely travelled. This gives us time to truly enjoy the silence of nature and out-of-this-world views of the Lysefjord. You’ll be lead through ancient pine forests along the Lysefjord’s inner hillsides. During the hike, you’ll come across a wide variety of flora and, if you’re lucky, also catch glimpses of the area’s beautiful wildlife (including owls, ravens, roe deer, and eagles).
The hike’s leisurely pace will allow you ample time to enjoy the tranquility of the fjord and its unforgettable landscapes. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, your guide will find a beautiful place for you to relax while enjoying a small snack and warm beverage. After the break, you’ll complete the second leg of the hike, which will take about an hour. Your journey back to Stavanger will begin onboard a ferry. During the short ferry ride, you’ll pass the ‘mouth’ of the Lysefjord, where it sharply branches off from the Høgsfjord. After returning to Stavanger, your guide will lead you on a short sightseeing walk through the city’s old town, Gamle Stavanger, where you’ll walk along narrow cobblestone streets lined with centuries-old wooden houses.
This is a moderately-demanding 2.5-hour, ~4 km (~2.5 mile) hike with a total ascent of just over 200 meters (656 feet). It is suitable for participants who are in general good condition, with some (basic) hiking experience.
PLEASE NOTE | During this hike, you will not see Preikestolen, but you will have an authentic outdoor experience and unique views of the Lysefjord and surrounding mountains.

Guide Erlend was fantastic in helping out and showing us the sights. Probably one of the best tours I've ever done overall. No complaints at all. Just too amazing.

Are you up for an unforgettable hiking adventure? Avoid the crowds by hiking with a guide in near-solitude while encountering out-of-this-world views of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord – which only few have seen.
Hike to Pulpit Rock during the early-morning twilight hours – before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.
Witness the magic of autumn’s shifting colors and Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking in near solitude. Snow, when present, contrasts splendidly with the flame-colored foliage. Join us on a guided hike to the Kjeragbolten boulder before the season comes to a close.
