Degree of Difficulty
Book Outdoorlife Norway’s privately guided hike to Preikestolen and experience an intimate, hassle-free visit to one of Norway’s most iconic natural landmarks. Gain access to hidden routes and exclusive photo opportunities along the trail, and enjoy spectacular views of Preikestolen and the Lysefjord.
To ensure that you beat the crowds, you’ll get an early start to the morning. After picking you up, your guide will transport the group to the base of the hiking trail, where you’ll receive a short briefing. You’ll then embark on your journey to Preikestolen. Your guide will lead you up the trail through shifting terrain. Along the way, while passing lakes, forests, and bogs, you’ll stop at numerous vantage points, all of which offer great views of the surrounding mountains. During the hike, you’ll be given ample opportunities to snap photos and catch your breath.
After 2-3 hours of hiking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord Norway has to offer. From atop the 604-meter-high cliff, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Lysefjord and its surrounding mountains. Your guide will serve you a warm drink and snack while allowing you time to enjoy a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge. After the break, you’ll be lead up to an exclusive viewpoint that overlooks both Preikestolen and the Lysefjord. From there, the views of the Lysefjord and its surrounding mountains are nothing short of awe-inspiring. After another short break, your guide will lead you back down to the trailhead, which will take about 2 hours. After a few last breaths of crisp mountain air, you’ll return to Stavanger.
If conditions permit, on the way back down the trail, your guide will follow an alternate route to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which will take about 2-2.5 hours. Because it’s not found on any maps, the alternative trail avoids the crowds that typically ascend the mountain during the early afternoon, and therefore offers guests a more secluded experience.
TIP | spending the night at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge is highly recommended – whether it be the night before or the night after our hike.
This hike is moderately-demanding: in 5-6 hours, you’ll hike ~8 km (~5 miles) with a total ascent of just over 500 meters (1,640 feet). It is suitable for participants who are in general good physical condition & have previous hiking experience.

Are you up for an unforgettable hiking adventure? Avoid the crowds by hiking with a guide in near-solitude while encountering out-of-this-world views of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord – which only few have seen.
Hike to Pulpit Rock during the early-morning twilight hours – before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.
Witness the magic of autumn’s shifting colors and Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking in near solitude. Snow, when present, contrasts splendidly with the flame-colored foliage. Join us on a guided hike to the Kjeragbolten boulder before the season comes to a close.
