Degree of Difficulty
Our most exclusive Preikestolen hiking adventure is designed to maximize your outdoor experience in every possible way. During this privately guided tour, enjoy both a sunset and a sunrise from a top Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). Spend a night in the mountains, and sleep under the stars! An epic, unparalleled way to experience the Fjord of Lights’ spectacular fjord landscapes. Includes dinner, accommodation at a ready-made campsite, and breakfast.
Your professional guide will pick you up in Stavanger during the afternoon. Your fjord adventure will begin with a private 30-minute transfer to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which includes driving through the world’s longest undersea road tunnel. At the lodge, you’ll have time to relax while enjoying a traditional Norwegian dinner. After everyone is done eating, your guide will give your group an information and safety briefing.
As other visitors are heading back down the main trail, you’ll embark on your journey up to Preikestolen. Your guide will navigate along an alternative trail that is almost unknown, even amongst the locals. The rustic trail winds through shallow wetlands and hushed woodland groves, ascending up towards the fjord’s edge. The landscape gets more peaceful as the last tourists descend from the mountain, which changes the mood completely. After 2.5 hours of hiking you’ll reach a ready–made campsite. Your resting place for the night has a 360-degree panoramic view. With a headlamp at the ready, you’ll wave farewell as the sun sets in the west. On clearer days, the distant coastline on the horizon will light up in golden hues and the mountains will be painted red by the last rays of sunlight.
As night approaches, it’ll be time to retreat to the warmth and comfort of your tent, which is located on a ridge adjacent to Preikestolen. If desired, you’ll enjoy a few short hours of sleep before your guide wakes you. During that time, the sun has traveled and is about to rise again in the east, over the Lysefjord. You’ll start the morning with a pre-dawn, 30-minute hike that takes you back to the Preikestolen plateau before the sunrise. After finding a comfortable place to relax, you’ll watch as the first beams of sunlight climb over the horizon and illuminate the Lysefjord’s steep mountain walls. While relaxing, you’ll have ample time to take photos while enjoying a snack and warm beverage.
Long before the first tourist-packed busses arrive from Stavanger at the trailhead, you’ll be on your way back down the trail to conclude your unique hiking experience with a well-deserved breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. Full of new, life-long memories, you’ll be transported back to Stavanger.
This hiking portion of this tour is moderately-demanding: each day, over 2.5-3 hours, you’ll hike ~4 km (~2.5 miles) with a total ascent/descent of just over 500 meters (1,640 feet). It is suitable for participants who are in general good physical condition & have previous hiking experience.

Are you up for an unforgettable hiking adventure? Avoid the crowds by hiking with a guide in near-solitude while encountering out-of-this-world views of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord – which only few have seen.
Hike to Pulpit Rock during the early-morning twilight hours – before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.
Witness the magic of autumn’s shifting colors and Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking in near solitude. Snow, when present, contrasts splendidly with the flame-colored foliage. Join us on a guided hike to the Kjeragbolten boulder before the season comes to a close.
