Outdoorlife Norway invites you to experience a unique Preikestolen hiking adventure! Early in the year, you can delight in the crisp stillness of Norway’s long, dark winter. You’ll hike in near-solitude while encountering breathtaking views of Preikestolen and the Lysefjord, which are often blanketed in snow and ice. As springtime approaches, bright green foliage starts sprouting up through the snow and the Lysefjord begins its yearly transformation into a green oasis. Grab the chance to beat the crowds and enjoy Preikestolen and the Lysefjord during the serenity of Norway’s winter and spring.
After an early-morning pick-up, your adventure will begin with a 30-minute transfer to the base of the hiking trail, including driving the world’s longest undersea road tunnel. After a short briefing at the trailhead, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen. Your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain and onward to the mountain’s plateau. Along the way, when trail conditions permit, you’ll hike to lesser-known, exclusive viewpoints. This early in the year, weather conditions are constantly changing and the trail is often covered with snow and ice, even well into springtime. As needed, you’ll adjust the equipment (ice spikes, etc.) to match the changes in terrain. Along the way, there will be opportunities to catch your breath, enjoy a warm beverage, and snap photos of the spectacular nature around you.
After 2.5 hours of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. Your guide will serve you a warm drink and snack while allowing you time to enjoy a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge. You’ll have the privilege of becoming one of the few to have experienced Preikestolen off-season =) After the break, your guide will lead you back down to the trail-head, which will take about 2 hours. After a few last breaths of crisp mountain air, you’ll return as a group to Stavanger.
If conditions permit, on the way back down the trail, your guide will follow an alternate route to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which will take about 2-2.5 hours. Because it’s not found on any maps, the alternative trail avoids any hikers that may ascend the mountain during the early afternoon, and therefore offers guests a more secluded experience.
TIP | Spending the night at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge is highly recommended – whether it be the night before or the night after our hike.
This is a moderately-demanding 5-6-hour, ~8 km (~5 mile) hike with a total ascent of just over 500 meters (1,640 feet). It is suitable for participants who are in general good physical condition & have previous hiking experience.

Are you up for an unforgettable hiking adventure? Avoid the crowds by hiking with a guide in near-solitude while encountering out-of-this-world views of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord – which only few have seen.
Hike to Pulpit Rock during the early-morning twilight hours – before the crowds of tourists have even begun to make their way up the trail. After the hike, enjoy breakfast / lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, which is located at the base of the hiking trail.
Witness the magic of autumn’s shifting colors and Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking in near solitude. Snow, when present, contrasts splendidly with the flame-colored foliage. Join us on a guided hike to the Kjeragbolten boulder before the season comes to a close.
