Product Description
We’ll start our day trip picking you up in Stavanger (select your preferred pick-up point when booking). After a 2,5 hour drive through a variety of landscapes, including green valleys, fjords and mountains, we will start our hike at the socalled Eagle’s Nest, 640 meter above sea level.
(height profile)
This is a relatively demanding 5,5 hours, 11 km hike (roundtrip) with a total ascent of 800 meters. The way up will take approximately 2,5 hours and contains three slopes, interspersed with two valleys. In the last two years, craftmen from Nepal have upgraded the trail, using natural rocks from the area, making it easier to ascent the last and steepest slope. From here, we can enjoy views on the village of Lysebotn below.
The last 2 kilometres to the Kjerag boulder are fairly flat. When we encounter the edge of the mountain plateau, panoramic views on the 42 long Lysefjord – flanked by 1000 meter high mountain walls – will unfold. If we are lucky, we’ll be able to see basejumpers – a legal sport in Norway. We’ll take it easy and enjoy a lunch and break at the boulder. The walk back to the parking lot takes approximately 2 hours.
Driving back over the mountain pass to Sirdal, we’ll cross a beautiful moonlike landscape. We’ll stop at Byrkjedalstunet, a candle factory selling Norwegian handmade candles and local art.
Please read the “Additional information” and “General conditions of contract” before booking.

Enjoyed the hike to Kjeragbolten. More than 95% of the hike was in the snow making it more challenging. Was good to have Johannes to guide us through some difficult patches of terrain. His local knowledge and expertise was well appreciated.

We did the hike in early June when there was still snow up in the mountains. It was a very unique experience for me, as I have never hiked in snow before! Johannes was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly, views were spectacular and even the route in the car was beautiful. 100% recommended!

I am so glad that I chose to go with OutdoorLife Norway for my hike to Kjerag. As it was very early June, the track was still 80% covered in a thick blanket of snow. Johannes was super prepared and had extra gear for us to hire as well as snow spikes and poles to help us reach our destination.
We met at 7am in Stavanger on the day and drove 2 and a half hours to the start point. The meeting time had been moved earlier so that we could catch some good weather and boy did we catch it! I was so impressed as we got super clear skies the whole hike and were safe in the car again when the rain clouds rolled in. In terms of the hike itself, it was pretty tough with all the snow but so worth it. The most difficult part is the first 3 km where we have to scale 3 mountains with valleys between. After that it was either flat or slight incline until Kjerag. Our guides (Johannes and Ida) was super professional and looked after us all so well throughout the day. Johannes was very knowledgeable on the terrain which helped us a lot during the hike. He also taught us all the safest way to get on to Kjeragbolten for that awesome photo (very helpful particularly to those afraid of heights).
Overall, I would definitely recommend this company if you plan on hiking Kjerag in the snow, if you are not very familiar with hiking on your own or if you just want some fun company along the way.

What an amazing experience! I came completely unprepared not knowing that we would be hiking in knee deep snow (as this was early June) but Johannes made us feel so comfortable and even lent me some necessary gear. The hike was absolutely stunning and what a reward at the end of it too. A must do! Highly recommend Johannes as a guide. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and makes you feel at ease. Thanks Johannes!

We did the hike in early June on a day when there was a whiteout on the mountain and the wind was blowing and the rain was coming down.
Our amazing leader and guide Johannes guided our group 7 on an “expedition” to Kjeragbolten. What an experience. Hiking through the snow with all the right gear provided and being encouraged on the trip and having things explained in great detail were all of assistance to our group.
I can thoroughly recommend Johannes and his company to anyone prepared to take on the walk. A must do experience.
thank you Johannes for the experience of a lifetime !!!!.

An amazing experience! I’m happy I booked this hike with Outdoorlife Norway. A challenging hike to a very nice view over the Lysefjord. I did the hike mid-June and there was still snow. This gave an extra dimension to the hike. Johannes guided the group very well through the snow!

I am glad that I booked this guided tour to Kjerag. Picked up at Stavanger centre and enjoyed the 2 hrs beautiful ride to Kjerag. When we arrived the starting point, Johannes, our guide provided the trekking poles at the beginning of our tour. Johannes is a great guide, knowledgeable, friendly, professional and safety-minded and he knows the best trail to climb up and down the mountains and picks the amazing spots to capture panoramic views on the Lysefjord. He warmly provided hot drinks and snacks to keep our energy up during lunch. He also provided tip to get on top of the Kjeragboltan and helped to take that amazing photo. Highly recommended this tour who plan to have a challenging hike to Kjerag.

I don’t think I can fully express just how much I enjoyed my hiking expedition with OutdoorLife Norway.
Upon arriving in Norway, my sister, brother-in-law and I knew that we wanted to hike Kjerag; however, we were unsure of our ability to successfully navigate the trail ourselves and decided a guided tour would be best. The hike itself was tough at times, but the gorgeous scenery surrounding us more than made up for it. At each step we were wowed by the mountains, the rivers, and the views of the fjord far below us. The fresh mountain air invigorated us with each step and made it easy to keep going. The guided tour through OutdoorLife Norway turned what I’m sure would have been a fun day alone into an amazing adventure. As our guide Johannes set clear expectations on what the trail would be like and what gear we would need to have a successful trip. He was friendly, cheerful and upbeat from the moment he picked us up that morning, and answered all questions with ease demonstrating a definite thorough knowledge of the Norwegian terrain. He set a good pace that allowed everyone to keep up, and stopped occasionally to explain aspects and details of the path that would have passed before our eyes unnoticed had we been hiking alone, which only heightened my appreciation of the trail itself. When we stopped for lunch, he led us to a lovely spot looking over the fjord below and passed around delicious hot cups of locally made black currant juice, a perfect surprise for our hike through the mountains. Once we reached the famous Kjeragbolten he pulled out his camera to take pictures of those in our group who dared to go out onto the rock, and once we had all stepped safely off he passed around some Norwegian chocolate, a sweet little touch to enhance the specialness of that moment.
When I’d first began looking for guided tours up through Kjerag I ended up picking OutdoorLife Norway on a whim and am completely thrilled with my decision. I wholeheartedly recommend any of the excursions offered knowing that a fantastic experience is guaranteed!

This is a great trip: every step when u look back u feel it is unbelievable that u make it.
Our guide Johannas (is this correct?) is very knowledgeable with the different terrain in different peaks, it is interesting to see the pink algae snow under the surface and things about locals. He is very thoughtful for everyone’s need and makes the trip fit for everyone.
Without our team members’ support and help on the road, i will never make it. Nice to meet everyone, and thanx!

We are so glad we chose outdoorlife to take us up the Kjerag. We were picked up right outside our hotel door and drove the 2.5 hours to the base (stopping on the way for last minute supplies). when we first saw the trail we were pretty intimidated But Johannes reassured us we would be fine. He even lent us poles to help us on the way. The hike itself was brilliant! The first part was a test but we were shown the easiest way. We stopped at a beautiful quiet spot for lunch and Johannes made us a lovely blackcurrant drink to keep our sugar levels up. along the way Johannes told us lots of interesting things about nature and the local area. when we got to the top we had plenty of time to explore and Johannes took some brilliant pictures of us on the boulder. He then took us a little further out to a wonderful quiet spot that had an incredible view of the fjord. on the decent the clouds came in a reduced visibility. We would have really struggled on the way back If it wasn’t for Johannes but as he knew the way so well we’re we able to enjoy the spooky atmosphere without having to worry about getting lost. He got us back in one piece and after getting a hot drink and some fresh socks we made our way home. I’m so pleased we decided to go with Johannes as we got see things and learn things that we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. Johannes is the perfect balance of information comfortable silence to allow you to really experience your surrounds.

Exciting hike & jumping on the Kjerag boulder
We had to hike over 3 hills/mountains. There are some challenging climbs on the way. Your body have to be in good condition for this hike.
The views on the landscape end Lysefjord are unforgettable. Along the hike there still was some snow. Guide Johannes takes us to the places. He also makes a picture of you on the Boulder for your photo book. And oh yeah……..we jumped! What an excitement! Great hike, txs Johannes

Johannes was a fantastic guide! We went to Kjerag today, and me being a first time hiker really gained a lot from Johannes help! Not only was he instructing me how to take each steps, but also encouraged me a lot psychologically so I tried my very best to keep positive mind for the journey! If not for Johannes guiding step by step I would never be able to reach the end point! Really thankful for his professional guide and patience through the whole time. Totally recommending Johannes!:)

The 1 day hike to kjerag was awesome, truly a life experience! And outdoorlifenorway makes it even better! Since the very beggining of my planning to the hike I was treated well. They pay attention to every detail so their guests can have a great time in their outdoors activities. Johannes literaly guide the hikers since the pick-up point to the very end of the hike. Besides the great views, you can learn a lot in hike with outdoornorway. I fully recommend this experience to anyone who is eager to have a fantastic time in norway

Priceless hike experience
I doubt I’ll ever be able to realise my dream of standing on the Kjeragbolten without Johannes. The hike was certainly no walk in the park but Johannes led the group skillfully, and he also provided essential equipment as well as step-by-step advice. The group’s safety was always his top priority, and he would never lead us onto a path that would jeopardise it. I’m deeply grateful for the safe and fulfilling hike under his guidance. Takk for turen!

One of the most beautiful views of the Lysefjord, and a fun but challenging hike. Not only were the views absolutely breathtaking, but also our guide made the experience richer. Our guide Johannes has such a passion and knowledge of the Norwegian landscape, so it was a pleasure to have him guiding us along the way. I would recommend a trip with Outdoor life Norway and would definitely be back!

As an inexperienced hiker, I was very fortunate to have Johannes motivate me and lead the hike. He was very encouraging and knew the best paths to take. He provided walking sticks and hot drinks for us on the tour. Another huge benefit of going with Johannes is that he knows where the best views are at and takes professional photos for you at the rock! Would highly recommend!
